If You Need a Reason Lyrics
got so lost that I went to church
sorry god but you made it worse
made me sit behind a fence
haunted by the evidence
I guess you don't want me to think
so instead I'll dream and drink
got too drunk to drive home
in the cab I grabbed my phone
and made a call I might regret
to a girl that I just met
lately things are not OK
i just wanted to hear somebody say
if you need a reason as to why your here
you don't need to look farther than me
if you need a reason as to why your here
you don't need to look farther than me
lovely, lovely quiet lake
how could this be a mistake
too dark now to see your face
your hair is blowing all over the place
the moon is caught in a frozen glass
could not let this moment pass
the sun is waiting far away
until i had a chance to say
all that's missing, all that's lost
every hope at any cost
every dream too good to come true
floods my heart when I'm with you
if you need a reason as to why your here
you don't need to look farther than me
if you need a reason as to why your here
you don't need to look farther than me
got so lost that I went to church
sorry god but you made it worse
made me sit behind a fence
haunted by the evidence
I guess you don't want me to think
so instead I'll dream and drink

In a stereotypical fashion, I feel obligated to say that I'm surprised that there are no comments posted on this song. This song is beautiful in its simplicity; these are the type of lyrics that, once read, make you wonder why you couldn't come up with something like that. The person in this song (whether it be Mason himself or if they are just lyrics) is searching for the meaning of life; he wants to know why we are here... he feels lost. Religion being a normal place to look for answers only served to turn up more emptiness and questions. Organized religion being what it is tends to stand firmly upon creeds and some far-fetched ideas. For a thinking man like Mason (or his character), this isn't good enough. He won't be forced into accepting these "facts". He seems to be saying that he could have been saved from a lot of trouble and heartache had someone just been there to tell him that they are the reason he is here. Someone to love and to love them back. Its what most people want. I can't make a universal statement and say that everyone does. The second verse turns it around beautifully to make Mason the one speaking; the end of the verse and the way it is set up almost seems as though it were a proposal (if it's not, it darn well could be). Well done, Mason
