Backdrop Lyrics
The backdrop gets blurry
the colors fade together
You barely looked back
but is barely enough?
Oh, tomorrow I'll be somewhere
it seems so far away
everything seems far away
The backdrop gets blurry
So who the open book?
and who's the open door?
I'd close them if I could
but I never could before
I'm still waiting...
it's two in the morning
and every headlight
looks like yous
And every night about this time
I grab the wheel it seems so familiar
things get hectic, and I get nervous
and I get nothing.
So go right ahead
'cause it rolls right off of you
So who the open book?
and who's these the open door?
I'd close them if I could
but I never could before
I'm still waiting...
it's two in the morning
and every headlight
looks like yous
I hope I mean it this time
and I hope you mean it this time.
Same old conversations
same old television
I'm so weak
I make my confessions
for most of the day
and the choices I make
and there's prices to pay
and there's consequences
of the meaningless, the ridiculous
and you all look the same underneath
you never make sense
you never mean a thing
the lights go out
and everything's blurry
So I'm the open book.
I'm the open door.
I'd close them if I could
but I never could before
and I'm sick and tired of waiting
it's two in the morning
and every headlight should be yours
the colors fade together
You barely looked back
but is barely enough?
Oh, tomorrow I'll be somewhere
it seems so far away
everything seems far away
The backdrop gets blurry
and who's the open door?
I'd close them if I could

probably one of my favorite songs on tibt. so meaningful.
apparently tj had a girlfriend that would show up at his house at random times during the night, hence the 'every headlight should be yours'
Yes, I agree with you Marbar. Either that or or he had a girlfriend that said she would come but never did and she never felt guilty for her actions. Also it seems like she used him...if I'm right
well him saying that every headlight looked like hers was how after they broke it off he would always expect her to come, even though it was in fact over i believe.
I feel slightly uncomfortable about the assumption that 'she used him'. We don't know what really happened, only the two of them will ever know that - and all we have to go on is a song written from a single perspective, when there are two sides to any break-up. I'm more inclined to give these girls the benefit of the doubt...and a basic degree of respect...rather than make judgements about them based on very little evidence.
Lea, I very much respect your comment. But our assupmtions about the meaning of the song are just educated guesses. I know for a fact that I'm wrong, I just thought in contribute what my point of view of the song was to possibly help better others towards the actual meaning. Or to throw others completely off-course. :) haha
