Return Trip Lyrics

The sun burns in the stranger's eyes
Just one tear before he dies
Black mass can't ease the pain
There's nothing here, there's nothing sane

I hope this fuckin' world fuckin' burns away
And I'd kill you all if I had my way
But I'll live forever, questions curse me why
Oh Lord above, why won't you let me die

This is one of the heaviest songs I've ever heard, period, and also one of my favorite songs of all time. I think it could be about being frustrated with the entire world and feeling absolutely powerless to change it. Maybe the last few lines about immortality is speaking of how there'll always be people like that who don't like the way things are and have to go through the same hopeless shit all over again. It's a difficult song to decipher, though.

Song is actually inspired by an 80's Italian cannibal film called Cannibal Ferox. The sample that comes in around the two and a half minute mark is actually from the film, "Get off my case motherfucker" as spoked by the character Mike. First six lines from the perspective of Mike, and the last two lines from the perspective of the character Gloria, who says, "Oh God please let me die soon." (last line of the song reference)

Oh, and by the way, this is an Electric Wizard song, so I'm sure the title is at the very least a double entendre relating to drugs, and possibly indicates a parallel meaning; however you want to think about it.

no, it's more personal... it's about realising that this world if running fast into apocalypse... and you are only able to survive this with drugs... no reason to stay clean, because if you are not tripping, you feel yourself in hell, and being in this world is like... eternal grief... it's just indescribable... you have to figure it yourself... it's unbelievably deep.

I think of the song as being about reincarnation and the frustration of having to be reborn into a world as shitty and miserable as this one for the thousandth or so time. As "the stranger" makes his Return Trip to Earth, he sheds a tear for that reason. Jus Oborn is saying that being born into this world again is like dying. When he says "I hope this fuckin' world fuckin' burns away/And I'd kill you all if I had my way" he really means "I'd kill us all"; this is blatantly implied by the way he switches to first person in the rest of that same sentence. The idea is to kill the assholes who made the world such a shitty place and to put everyone else out of their misery. He knows his soul will live forever, but if it's going to be in this world, he'd rather just die. But that's just how I think of it. Anyway, this song is awesome, and I love Come My Fanatics... even more than Dopethrone.

I reckon Returntrip68 has it right. Because there are actually more lyrics after these original ones, he says.

"Lord forgive me, for I have sinned. But I'll never sin again. No, no, no I'll never sin again"

So on and so forth. This supports the Cannibal Ferox influence because it is most obviously from the perspective of Mike, him saying "I'll never sin again." To get rid of the pain that he has endured, because in the movie, Mike tortures one of the tribe members in a village. And after that, he and the others get captured and are tortured.
