To Whom It May Concern Lyrics

So hold your head up high and know it's not the end of the road
Walk down this beaten path before you pack your things and head home
At the end of the road you'll find what you've been longing for

I know 'cause my feet have scars to show
I was lost with vague direction and no place to call home

It's time for you to press on
This is not your war
Set your sights to North and press on
This is not your escape
Wash away what they thought of you
Because in this place, we're all as good as dead
...end cycle...

Behind the mask you'll find yourself alone
It's not the end of the road for you

So hold your head up high and know it's not the end of the road

Don't despair when things aren't going your way or when you get lost.

Walk down this beaten path before you pack your things and head home

If you are going through a tough time, (death of a loved one) mourn them and then move on. Or if you've got a drug problem, realize it and recognize the problem and work to end it.

At the end of the road you'll find what you've been longing for

If you persevere and keep God, your family, and your real friends in your heart during your struggle you will find the light.

I know 'cause my feet have scars to show

Obviously, the writer (Spencer) is telling you that he knows the truth in this because he had fallen and worked to get his life in order and to better himself. (i believe he had a drug/alcohol problem)

I was lost with vague direction and no place to call home

In an interview, Spencer said that drugs we're his substitute for a "strong family or loving girlfriend" He was going nowhere with his life and didn't have any loving family/friend support.

It's time for you to press on This is not your war Set your sights to North and press on

Move on with your life. North has a big N so I am assuming it is in reference to God. Follow God and His Word. Make moral decisions and help yourself as well as others.

This is not your escape

I interpret this 2 ways. 1) don't kill yourself 2) an angsty, immoral lifestyle won't solve the problem

Wash away what they thought of you Because in this place, we're all as good as dead

Believe in God and don't be afraid what others might think. They are the ones that are bringing you down.

...end cycle...

End the cycle of your destructive lifestyle.

Behind the mask you'll find yourself alone

Whether doing drugs, getting drunk all the time or making immoral decisions... it's just not the answer. You're putting on a mask to blend in with the crowd or to fool yourself. When you are alone you find yourself empty and sad (ANGST!) (be it a legit problem or just wanting to feel wanted/important/etc.)

It's not the end of the road for you

It's not the end of the world. There will be more chances, more redemptions, more girls (or boys), etc etc. So just keep on praying! Life is just one big test! Live it and don't lose yourself in it. Trust in God, read the Book, listen to Underoath, and stay optimistic. Life is good.

To Nothing But Skin, this album is filled with references towards coming to Christ, accepting who you are, and staying strong despite the issues at hand. If you read the liners notes, all of them speak of God and Jesus Christ, and a few of them write very personal messages.

For those fans of UnderOATH who say that they aren't who they were, that they're a screamo band without direction, read a song like this with an open mind. They've grown both musically and lyrically, and I for one, am impressed with their sense of vision. They actually had something to say on this album with every song, which not a lot of bands can claim, whether they're "screamo", "metal", or otherwise.

Anyway, I wanted to get that off my chest. It bothers me when you compare the UnderOATH of today to the UnderOATh that first started. They've stayed true to their message.

That's enough for me.

the liners notes?

I love the new Cd!! Indeed it is a great end. I am impressed with these guys and their cd. Its a good direction for them to go in. I see so much of an Norma Jean influence which I love.

To me, it sounds like this song is talking about being a Christian. In today's society, it's hard to be a proud Christian sometimes, and I think this song is telling Christians to stay strong and keep walking the path, even when it gets hard, because in the end, you'll get everything you've longed for.

Heresmykisstobetray....your probably right. On their previous album their finale song was about christians, and now this seems to be. Even though i don't believe in Christianity at all really, these are one of the best bands around. I saw the live in April aswell....and on "A boy brushed red..." all their mic's and amps cut out! i was like "BASTARDS" so they threw their guitars and mics to the floor and kicked the drum kit....in style :)

it's a rrrrrealllllyyy good song. i think its prehaps an anthem to those who think about suicide or just simply giving up on something, and telling them to stay strong.

This is the only CD where Underoath doesn't mention Jesus' name. Great album otherwise, but this is my least favorite compared to the first 4 records.

I'm in love with this album and the new sound. I'm in love with Underoath in general...

"So hold your head up high and know it's not the end of the road" - Be committed to what you believe in and don't let what anyone tells you, bring you down. "Walk down this beaten path before you pack your things and head home." - Walk down the road of being true and loyal to Christ before you die, don't give up and don't give into sin..

At the end of the road you'll find what you've been longing for." - ...then, when you leave this forsaken world, you'll get your reward - heaven and Christ.

"I know 'cause my feet have scars to show I was lost with vague direction and no place to call home." - The singers say that they've walked down the wrong path and they got lost and life lost meaning to them.

"It's time for you to press on This is not your war." - don't try to put sense into non-believers because one must find their own way to God.

"Set your sights to North and press on." - Set your sights to heaven and continue down the road.

"This is not your escape" - Not sure what this means.

"Wash away what they thought of you. Because in this place, we're all as good as dead ...end cycle..." - It doesn't matter what others think of you because Earth is forsaken and it only matters what God thinks of you not humans.

"Behind the mask you'll find yourself." - If you forget and give up all the meaningless things as in a mask... then you'll find yourself and you'll find God.

I think this song is about a drug adiction ill break it down line by line

So hold your head up high and know it's not the end of the road-- don't give up on life

Walk down this beaten path before you pack your things and head home--try to break the adiction before you give up on it all

At the end of the road you'll find what you've been longing for-- self explainatory

I know 'cause my feet have scars to show-- he knows because hes done it I was lost with vague direction and no place to call...
