Stolen Lyrics
We watched the season pull up its own stakes, and catch the last weekend of the last week. Before the gold and the glamour have been replaced, another sun-soaked season fades away.
You have stolen my heart. You have stolen my heart.
Invitation only, grant farewells, crushed the best one of the best ones. Clear liquor and cloudy eye, too early to say goodnight.
You have stolen my heart. You have stolen my heart.
And from the ballroom floor we are in celebration, one good stretch before our hibernation. Our dreams assured, and we all, we’ll sleep well.
Sleep well, sleep well, sleep well, sleep well.
You have stolen my, you have stolen, you have stolen my heart.
Watch you spin around in your highest heels, you are the best one of the best ones. We all look like we feel.
You have stolen my, you have stolen my, you have stolen my heart.

First of all, the lyrics are wrong...it's pull up its own "stakes" not "stages."
Secondly, "Watch you spin around in your highest heels you are the best one of the best ones" has to be one of my all-time favorite lines of Dashboard's.
My interpretation of this song is a recurring theme in Chris' music: that of summer love and the ensuing loss/nostalgia. I think he met someone, had a great summer, got drunk and crashed a killer farewell party, but did it with grace, style, and possibly the love of his life.
Hibernation and sleep well I think are metaphors for the closure of summer and the segue into the incipient fall. Terrific song, brilliant man.
i think this song's about falling in love with summer
this was my summer theme song. it captures the way you feel when youre in love, how all comes to a stop and you never want summer to end because when youre with the one you love in a magical time like summer, nothing could be better.
I understand the obvious reference of the summer season that most people commenting here are making a pivotal part of the song, but I don't focus so much on that. I look at it as more of a metaphor. I do interpret the lyrics as a storm-like, whirlwind rush of a complete surrender of the heart. It's the experience of falling in love, living in those moments and literally making every minute count, with an unspoken understanding that somehow these moments shared together, will inevitably end. I don't feel any sense of sadness tho in this song and feel nothing but love, nostalgia and an appreciation/gratitude for having experienced these moments. I think the reference to it being summer, specifically the ending of the season, is the metaphor. We've all had those summers we will never forget and unlike others we've lived through. The one we've named as "The best times of my life." I know the one I'll never forget and this song takes me right back to it, even if its for a moment. I also have the memories of that girl I fell head over feet for, made memories with and then it was over. No bitterness, no hard feelings... just the sadness that hung around briefly and a connection thats been the backbone to a friendship thats going on 20 years now. Im 46 now and those 5 months back in 2008 are one of the highlights in my life's story so far. If my life were a movie, this song would be on its soundtrack and playing during those months.

I like how brokenmind87 described this song as being about "falling in love with summer".... It truly is an amazing song :)
"we all look like we feel" is an amazing line.
reminds me of spending my summer at the jersey shore, which i have been doing for as long as i can remember.
In this song, I feel he delivers the best line of the album," We All Look Like We Feel ".
And for some reason, the words "You Have Stolen My Heart" never lose their meaning as many times as they are repeated. Beautifully done song, through and through.
well, i could be mistaking, but let me try and clear up a few lyrics...atleast this is how i thought they were. "we watch the season pull up it's own STAKES" "before the gold and the GLIMMER have been replaced" "invitations ONLY GRANT FAREWELLS" "too early to SAY GOODNIGHT" "and we all WILL sleep well, sleep well" "I watch you spin around" now, i am not saying i am right, i am just saying that i remember, and sing them differently. check them
this song is heavenly...there is no other word to describe it. my favorite line has already been mentioned by some folks.
"i watch you spin around in your highest heels you are the best one of the best ones, we all look like we feel"
this line is absolutely amazing. GIRLS of the world, tell me when do you feel the most beautiful? well, for me it is when i am all dressed up(in my highest heels), dancing with no cares(spin around). so, in this setting i FEEL beautiful, therefore if i look like i feel, i am beautiful...correct? that is what i get out of this song.
if nothing else it is a moving melody...sigh
lyrics...
we watched the season pull up it's own STAKES. INVITATION-ONLY grand farewells. we CRASH the best ones of the best ones. clear liquor and cloudy-eyed, too early to SAY GOODNIGHT.
i agree with deathcabislove's lyric changes. and... this song is so amazing.
someone ealier said how the world 'stolen' usually has a negative connotation. but the way he sings it makes it seem so beautiful.
again, as many people have said before, i think this is about the ending of summer.
beauuutiful song.
