See The World Lyrics
Day to day, where do you want to be?
Cause now you're trying to pick a fight with everyone you need
You seem like a soldier
Whose lost his composure
You're wounded and play a waiting game
In No-Man's-Land no one's to blame
See the world
Find an old-fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
The things that are given (not won) are the things that you want
Empty-handed surrounded by a senseless scene
With nothing of significance besides the shadow of a dream
You sound like an old joke
You want out the bed broken
Asking me time and time again
And the answer's still the same
See the world
Find an old-fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
The things that are given (not won) are the things that you want
Sha la la la la la (x8)
You have a chance to put things right, so how's it going to be?
Lay down your arms now
And put us beyond doubt
So reach out it's not too far away
Don't mess around now don't delay
See the world
Find an old-fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
The things that are given (not won) are the things that you want
Sha la la la la la (x8)
The things that you want
Are given not won
Cause now you're trying to pick a fight with everyone you need
You seem like a soldier
Whose lost his composure
You're wounded and play a waiting game
In No-Man's-Land no one's to blame
Find an old-fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
The things that are given (not won) are the things that you want
With nothing of significance besides the shadow of a dream
You sound like an old joke
You want out the bed broken

An absolutely beautiful use of the pop song structure.
Like some gomez tunes, it seems to be directed at an individual--in this case, someone wasting the little time that life gives each and every one of us. It's pretty generic, but the person seems to be pushing away all of his truest friends.
Note how the verses start off depressing in tone as the describe the indiviual in question, then develop a more frustrated and upset tone. The only accompaniment initially is a tambourine, long root bass notes, and the guitar riff(during the AA ryhmes). Then the kick drum comes in (BB), then the hihat and another strummed guitar.
Once the chorus kicks in, the speaker's uplifting advice as accompanied by a much bouncier bassline, a snare drum and open harmonies.
"You want out the bed broken".. I think this is "You're worn out, a bit broken". I really love this song, and the video is a great suggestion to what it's about.. influenced by the video, I think it's about needing to get out of your surroundings, away from everyone you know, and just explore and rediscover yourself. Live outside your comfort zone and try things.
HOW has one person commented on this? One of my favorite songs, ever! This is so ... sorta feel-good, if you think about it. Btw, this was featured on House, M.D a few weeks ago. Gomez kinda sounds like Johnny Cash, I think.
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG.
I only found this band when I bought the House MD soundtrack due to my...somewhat unhealthy obsession with House haha, but this song is absolutely beautiful.
Oh, my God. This song is so amazing. I was also introduced to Gomez through House, and they're so awesome. This song PERFECTLY represents the meaning that House held in its first three seasons. Season four, however, is questionable, but we'll see.
Haha I'm on here because I heard it from House TOO. That's amazing. Yeah I've heard this on the radio once or twice, and I'm glad I finally sat down to give the lyrics a look-over. I like hethsk8ter's idea of the song because if that's really what the song is about, it'll give me the hopeful feeling I'm looking for whenever I hear it. If that makes sence =P
Great song though. It's catchy :D
Oh yeah, and it's a song inspiring us to get out there!
Oh my god! I totally also commented on this song solely because it was featured on House! It's far from their best.
Also here because of house MD. What an amazing song! To someone with a broken heart / monotonous life / repetitive frustration of any kind, it gives perfect inspiration to go out and explore a bit!
Chances you earn, are given not won... I couldn't figure out the meaning of this phrase. If anyone here could help me out?
@akshitarora I think he means basically that "the best things in life are (almost) free." i.e the things we work hard for in life (education, money, material things) seldom bring us happiness. The things that do ( love, experiences from travels/adventures/other cultures, friendship) are way more important.
