Well, it's a big, big city and it's always the same
Can never be too pretty, tell me your name
Is it out of line
If I was to be bold to say, "Would you be mine"?
Because I may be a beggar and you may be the queen
I know I may be on a downer, I'm still ready to dream
Though it's three o'clock
The time is just the time it takes for you to talk

So if you're lonely
Why'd you say you're not lonely?
Oh, you're a silly girl
I know I heard it so
It's just like you to come and go
And know me
No, you don't even know me
You're so sweet to try
Oh my, you caught my eye
A girl like you's just irresistible

Well, it's a big, big city and the lights are all out
But it's as much as I can do, you know, to figure you out
And I must confess
My heart's in broken pieces and my head's a mess
And it's four in the mornin' and I'm walkin' along
Beside the ghost of every drinker here who's ever done wrong
And it's you, woo-hoo
That's got me goin' crazy for the things you do

So if you're crazy
I don't care you amaze me
But you're a stupid girl
Oh me, oh my, you talk
I die, you smile, you laugh, I cry
And only
A girl like you could be lonely
And it's a cryin' shame
If you would think the same
A boy like me's just irresistible

So if you're lonely
Why'd you say you're not lonely?
Oh, you're a silly girl
I know I heard it so
It's just like you to come and go
And know me
No, you don't even know me
You're so sweet to try
Oh my, you caught my eye
A girl like you's just irresistible

I'm going to disagree with all the people who think she says she's not lonely because she's not interested in him. I think it's the opposite. She doesn't want to sound desperate or pathetic so she claims to be happy alone, not lonely at all, when in reality all she wants is to be with him. She has her guard up as she's been hurt before. He sees through this and calls her silly for pretending to be more calloused than she is.

I think this song is about the union between two people who have been hurt and are cautious entering into anything. Perhaps they are casually seeing each other and both want it to be more but are worried that the other one isn't interested so they put up a front.

As far as saying "So if you're crazy, I don't care you amaze me" I don't think he is saying that she is crazy. She's so amazing that even if she WAS crazy, he wouldn't care.

That's my interpretation of it. It has a lot to do with personal experiences though.

Well first this is an incredible song i love it, each time i hear it i found a new meaning to it. Like if each line had it's own story. The one i like the most is the one in which this boy who has a broken heart from an earlier relationship meets this girl and founds her amazing even if she's kinda crazy, and so amazing he can't belive she's lonely even if she says opposite and so amazing he feels inferior to her so he wants her to know him and found him as irresistible as he think she is.

I think it's about the boy, who's in love with a girl, but he's not sure if she feels the same way for him. He says she's "the Queen" for him, and he's only the beggar. He thinks all the time about her (til 4 in the morning). But she's hiding her feelings, she says: I'm not lonely! and shows that. But she is lonely. That's why he calls her a silly/stupid girl. Well, she's not sure if she feels the same way for him, that's why she keeps on coming and going. Maybe they know each other, but not well, so he says: And know me, no, you don't even know me! But she's trying to, she doesn't know what she wants. And her crazy behaviour is making her irresistable for him. She keeps on playing and messes him totally up (my heart's in broken pieces and my head's a mess). He thinks it would be a crying shame if she is only hiding her feelings for him and would think he's irresistable.

I'll add a comment! Love this song too. Especially love the line 'So if your crazy I don't care you amaze me' because it shows how individuality and a unique persona is 'amazing' and important and in this case can make a person attractive.

i think it's about a boy and a girl, (obviously) and they were together for a while, until she broke it off. he's trying to get back with her, and she is giving him excuses (such as her being crazy, and him not caring or her saying "she's not lonely" when really she is) and he can see through them cause he knew they were "meant to be".

that's the way i see it, at least.

i really understand this song because i feel like this girl is close to my personality. (strangely my name is chelsea..) when i heard this song i was freaked out by how much i felt it was perfect for me. i think that its about this guy waiting around for an interesting pretty perfect girl, and he's sick of all the mindless pretty girls around who arent interesting. this girl "come(s) and goe(s)" and has not been able to commit to anyone and is lost in life just like the author of the song. she insists shes crazy, she's different, and that's exactly what the author likes about her. she is painfully lonely but too strong to admit and he has such a deep understanding for her immediately that he calls her out on it. this song is so romantic and one of my favorites.

I think people look into this more then they should, its quite a simple meaning, this song describes my current personal experience better then any song I know, but a bloke has met a girl, and hes still weeping from a broken heart that he had earlier, but hes met this amazing girl, and he falls in love with her, but he feels as if shes so beautiful and lovely he wont have a chance. And the 'Stupid girl' thing is what he is saying to himself about the situation, but yeah that's just my interpretation, so don't get mad and call me a fuck nugget or whatever lol

"well its a big big city and its always the same"- Lots of girls, same old same old bimbos. wants somethin abit different. "can never be too pretty tell me your name" - Wants somethin more exciting"

"cos i my be a begger and u maybe the queen" - Meets tgthis amazing girl that stands out. he feels inferior hence the begger and shes like this grreeat person....The Queen.

This girl first messes with him, but in a playfull way....at first he doesnt realise she could be sum1 special...then "yoh my, you caught my eye" he likes her...shes "irresistable"

Verse 2 - "And it's 4 in the morning, and I’m walking along Beside the ghost of every drinker here who has ever done wrong And it's you, woo hoo" he is walkin back from somewhere then realises he is with this amazinng girl hence the "and its you - woo hoo"

Chorus 2 - "So if your crazy I don't care you amaze me" - he is amazed by her crazyness. he loves it. "shes a stupid girl" - but he lovces it. he worships her, she talks, he dies, he now asks "a girl like you could be lonely"? its like omg, how can someone like u be so lonely its not possible. "its a crying shame" to think that she could be lonely. he wants her to think he is just as irrresistable. "So if your lonely, why'd you say you're not lonely" - shes lying about her not really being lonely either because she doesnt want to be with him..."its just like u to come and go" shes arrived but now she is gone ....shes irresistable but he cant let go and he will persist..

    i lvoe this song.

anyone agree with me and my meaning?

ill alter my opinion from abvoe...

basically i think its about this guy...he sees this girl thats amazing. shes fantastic.... this crazy but amazing person...he doesnt beleive he is good enough. he wants her to think he is just as irrrestistable as he thinks she is...

im confused with the ending but i beleive he lost out...he hung around "its just like u t ocome and go"

he waited too loong his insecurities got the better.

other than that i still agree with my first explaination above.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
