Untrustable/Pt. 2 (About Someone Else) Lyrics
You can't trust anyone
'Cause you're untrustable
How can you trust someone you know can't trust you?
You won't help anyone
'Cause you're unusable
No one can tie you down
No, you're nobody's fool
And I'd love to see it but it's something you just feel
And I'd like to feel it but it just isn't real
And God is whoever you're performing for
And God is whoever you perform for
You don't like anything
'Cause you're unlikable
All because you're not interested in you anymore
It's so unthinkable
'Cause you don't think of it
How many ideas can fit in your reality
And I'd love to see it but it's something you just feel
And I'd like to feel it but it just isn't real
And I'd love to see it but it's something you just feel
And I'd like to feel it but it just isn't real
And God is whoever you're performing for
And God is whoever you perform for
I know you
Feel the things you see
You know they're true
What are you gonna do?
Why can't you
Empathize with Jesus' point of view?
What are you gonna do?
Can you feel the darkness shining through?
What are you gonna do?
Why can't you
Move yourself like other people do?
What are you gonna do?
I know you
Wouldn't be the way you feel if you could choose
What are you gonna do?
Can you feel the darkness shining through?
What are you gonna do?
'Cause you're untrustable
How can you trust someone you know can't trust you?
You won't help anyone

Trabsitionally speaking, this song is so layered and textured and the tonal chnages coalesce into eachother so well. Built to Spill has a wonderful capacity of allowing their songs to be lofting and than all of a sudden come to this dynamic, memorable climax. This song works on so many levels for me.
Trabsitionally speaking? tonal chnages? coalesce into eachother? lofting and than? OMG you have to biggest idiot. You use big words yet you cannot spell. You try to speak with eloquence yet you're grammar is equal to that of a 4th grade dropout. If you listen to this song... ITS ABOUT YOU!

He's right though. No need to hate.

Firstly, coalesce is spelled correctly. Secondly, it was only a matter of misplacing one letter (trabsitionally-transitionally, chnages-changes) that caused the other two words to be misspelled.

I always find it amusing when ignorant simpletons attack a persons grammatical correctness and pay no mind to what is actually being said. I can assure you, I generally always double check to see all words are spelled correctly before posting, for consideration purposes and what not. I can assure you, I generally always double check to see all words are spelled correctly before posting, for consideration purposes and what not. However, on this occasion, I wrote it in haste and made a couple minor spelling errors. The fact you felt the need to attack in the manner you did is more indicative of your petty insecurities and the fact you yourself have nothing insightful to say about the song than me being the biggest idiot. I can also assure you, that in manners of intellectual gravitas, I would dominate you.
The type of motherfucker who uses threads to vent his frustrations over his own life and therefore take away from the main subject matter, i.e. any apparent meaning in songs really frustrates me. So, in closing, it seems rather obvious to me that it is in fact you who is the biggest idiot.
wow, you said what i could not! SO DAMN well put! Such a great song. Kicked in the sun is the same for me... same description.. doug is my god he is performing for me. lol. cheers

To speak on hypocrisy for a moment, "drfunk", I have to say, for someone so abruptly attacking another for improper grammatical form your last post was really poorly worded and structure. You truly must be the simpleton in this regard, for my own sake.

*structured. I corrected myself, okay; settle down. I wouldn't want you to have to assume what I meant using rational thought and logic regardless of a minor misplacement of letters.

this is my favorite song on this album. does anyone else appreciate this as much as me?
ABSOLUTELY one of my fav songs... this album is the best album IMO. I mean its just insane how good this song is along wth the song before it, kicked in the sun. on this track at the 2:44 mark doug works his guitar into this melodic place and then it just becomes euphoric at about 3:30... just simply amazing music. And the lyrics.. you cant trust anyone, cuz your untrustable... SO TRUE!!

@noisetothetape Yes, sir/madam, yes. This song makes my heart so happy. The low string solo at around the 6:30 mark is one of my favorite moments in all music, and up the til the end of the song. I love it so much.

Wow, no comments yet?! I think this song is a follow-up to "Randy Described Eternity."
I'm torn between thinking that the title is saying that this entire song is "part 2" and thinking the song is split into two parts---the untrustable part until the last "God is whoever you're performing for and the second part where the instrumentation and vocals change. In that case, is the second half of the song about someone different than the untrustable part?
Overall I feel the song is about blind belief, or blindness of vision in general---about one's self, about one's religion, or about other people. One of the last lines, "I know you wouldn't be the way you feel if you choose" sums it up. If people could just push past their emotions and see theirselves honestly, or see their god rationally, the world would be easier and/or better.
It occurs to me that the song may be one hypocrite talking to another---maybe part 1 of the song is the Christian guy telling this other guy what an asshole he is, and how he can't see the truth about himself. Then the second half of the song is the Christian guy doing the "christian" thing and trying to save the first guy, but reveals his own hypocrisy, in that he (the christian guy) is oblivious to his own asshole-ism. It's a great f-you song, in any case.
1 comment,..... i think this is the best built to spill song
"And God is whoever you're performing for And God is whoever you perform for"
this song is really amazing the lyrics are awsome
I think this song is simply beautiful. It calls at you to explain yourself. "You can't trust anyone 'cause you're untrustable." It's so fucking true.
it's great.
*Transitionally, changes. Cheers.
*each other. Okay, so I may have been a little intoxicated when the comment was posted.
