I stole a ride on a passing star
Not knowing where I was going
How near or how far
Through years of light, lands of future and past
Until the heavenly gates
Were sighted at last
Starrider, rider, rider
Take me to the stars
Starrider, rider, rider
Show me where you are
Northern lights flashed by
And then they were gone
And as old stars would die
So the new ones were born
And ever on I sailed
Celestial ways
And in the light of my years
Shone the rest of my days
Speed increasing
All control is in the hands of those who know
Will they help us grow
To one day be starriders
Starrider, rider, rider
Show me where you are
Starrider, rider, rider
Take me to the stars
Speed increasing
All control is in the hands of those who know
Will they help us grow
To one day be starriders
Not knowing where I was going
How near or how far
Through years of light, lands of future and past
Until the heavenly gates
Were sighted at last
Take me to the stars
Starrider, rider, rider
Show me where you are
And then they were gone
And as old stars would die
So the new ones were born
Celestial ways
And in the light of my years
Shone the rest of my days
All control is in the hands of those who know
Will they help us grow
To one day be starriders
Show me where you are
Starrider, rider, rider
Take me to the stars
All control is in the hands of those who know
Will they help us grow
To one day be starriders

This song is awesome. Too short though. Funny how Foreigners first 4-5 albims were so cool, then they got kinda boring and repetitive. I love the beginning of the song. It makes me think of Aliens. Like they are the starriders. Then they land on earth. And then they haul ass when they figure out they can’t trust humans. This would be a good song to play on the way to heaven. Comeon. Someone else comment on this trippindicular song please.
I'm currently recovering from a breakup, to me Starrider signifies my journey to get back on track with my life. I don't know exactly what track I want or how to get there, and that's what I perceive this song to mean.
Definitely too short.
At Christmas Santa Claus brought me a brand new Emerson Am/Fm 8 Track with record player and I got the Foreigner debut 8 track and “Starrider” along with “Long Long way from home” we’re my two favorite songs ! Years later in reading the lyrics it appears that he is talking about an alien space ship and that the truth is out there. The lyrics “All control is in the hands of those who know, will they help us grow to one day be Starrider’s “
This song is very underrated. Many of Foreigner’s songs do not have deep meanings, but this song is an exception. This song is very similar to “Stairway To Heaven,” because they focus on taking a risk to get into heaven. The star is metaphorically representative of a human life, where it moves through space, just like we move through life. We all strive to reach the end star, heaven. However, I believe that there are more comical ways to interpret the song. It can also be interpreted as a song for when the aliens invade the world! But, a true deeper meaning is that the song could be talking about love. The “ride” can represent the true essence of love, while the end destination is undetermined, letting it take you wherever it takes you. “Not knowing where I was going” can represent the unpredictability of a relationship. Anywhere the ride (relationship) can take you is unprecedented. Foreigner’s songs were mostly about love, and this one may be no exception.
