Sunshine Fist Magnet Lyrics

A cold December in a sleepy town
If you're different, you're a freak and they don't want you around
Got daddy's car on a Friday night
Just a speed bump in a privileged life

There ain't no justice if you're not like them.
You stand out in the crowd like a target with your friends
So much more than what they see
They're afraid of someone who lives so free

Fist Magnet
Conform to this decay
Fist Magnet
Why won't you obey?
Fist Magnet
More than what they see
Now there's a little less sunshine here today

It's dark outside, they extinguish your light
The ninjas in the Caddie roll silently out of sight
Got daddy's car on a Friday night
Just a speed bump in a privileged life

It's true, we're just like you and we'll carry on
And I hope that one day I can be just half as strong
And you walk with us to this day
And we're all Brian Deneke

Fist Magnet
Conform to this decay
Fist Magnet
Why won't you obey?
Fist Magnet
More than what they see
Now there's a little less sunshine here today

I walk in the light, I refuse to hide
I'll be myself and I will live with pride
I won't be denied

Fight magnet

This song brings a tear to my eye. It's about Brian Deneke, the 17 year old from Amarillo, Texas who was killed by Dustin Camp in '97. The punks and the jocks had been fighting, and in short, Camp ran him over with a Cadillac. On top of that, he only received the penalty of manslaughter serving a year and then getting out.

Sunshine was Brian's nickname. "There ain't no justice if you aren't like them." Brian Deneke didn't receive justice. He was different...and somehow the jury figured he had it coming. I agree with every word of this song.

I hope I can ever be half as strong as Brian Deneke was...and he DIED being himself. He didn't deserve his death...and now he's gone forever. People are afraid of what they don't understand. Teach tolerance. No one should have to die like he did. No one should be run over in a parking lot intentionally with the final words of the killer being "I bet he liked that one."

Brian Deneke is dead. Let his life be an example. RIP. '78-'97
