Poor Little Allison Lyrics
Poor little Allison
Standing in the night wind
Wishing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain
Poor little Allison
Never had much goin'
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in
Never knowin' never feelin'
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside
Poor little Allison
Dreaming of the right one
Laughing out loud
Lost in a crowd of fair weather friends
Never knowin' never feelin'
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside
Poor little Allison
Standing in the night wind,
Wishing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in
Standing in the night wind
Wishing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain
Poor little Allison
Never had much goin'
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in
Never knowin' never feelin'
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside
Dreaming of the right one
Laughing out loud
Lost in a crowd of fair weather friends
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside
Standing in the night wind,
Wishing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in

I remember hearing about a link to the National Guard shootings at Kent State. I'd heard that Lightfoot was inspired by the iconic photo of the distraught girl looking up from one of the victims. Searching for info about the Allison Krause of Union Station fame, I stumbled on a Kent State link: one of the victims was an honor student named Allison Beth Krause. Interesting.
Regarding my previous post on "Poor Little Allison," the dates don't work. Lightfoot wrote the song before the tragedy at Kent State.
