I'll Swallow You Lyrics
I love myself
I was made for myself
If I kissed you I lied
I am made to be admired
You made a mistake
When you pressed your lips to mine
I inhale what I see
I steal what I breathe
You are mine only mine (x2)
I will swallow you (x2)
You are mine only mine
I will swallow you
(Repeat x3)
I was made for myself
If I kissed you I lied
I am made to be admired
You made a mistake
When you pressed your lips to mine
I inhale what I see
I steal what I breathe
You are mine only mine (x2)
I will swallow you (x2)
You are mine only mine
I will swallow you
(Repeat x3)

I think this song is about not living up to (in particular, the church's/religions) expectations and wishes; we are our own person and are free to do what we please. We weren't born to ... serve, in a sense.
The beginning of the song seems to be someone (let's call he/she Person +) falling for (religion) and begs for his soul to be saved. Then during the second half, it appears the (religion) Person + was worshiping shows us its true colours/agenda as it takes over Person +.
That's one way to look at it; it's how I see it anyways.
The way I interpert the lyrics is this: The first half is the voice of an individual asking god/the church/religion to save his/her soul from damnation by giving themselves to said god/church/religion. They are giving themselves over completely to be saved.
The second half is the voice of god/the church/religion showing it's true nature, eschewing all these egotistical remarks ("I was made for myself"/"If I kissed you, I lied", effectivley saying, "I am the highest power, and you are nothing to me").
And then the lyrics "I'll swallow you", etc. to me signify this divine being saying the original voice is going to waste their existence worshipping them, but with little concern for the fact that they are wasting their life on such an uncaring creator. The voice of this god likely feels being worshipped is deserved--"I was made to be admired".
It's really remarkable... The second half has such a sick, twisted beauty about it when you hear it in relation to what's being said. It's actually somewhat disturbing to me, but it's easily one of my favorite moments on this album!
"Can you help ME save you soul?" leads me to believe that particular segment may be the interperetation of the Bible by the church/pope/priests,etc. speking to the individual which makes the individual believe they need the church to avoid damnation.
For me the first part is about someone that wants to believe - but is losing faith. In the second part he/she realizes that all that all he/she liked about religion/God was a part of himself or herself all along. It is the former believer that finds his/her freedom and "devours" God - not the other way around.
God/government/celebrity/love /identity ,etc. in a sense you are all right, maybe a little short sighted on allegory . You are me, my loves
