Waterfalls Lyrics

Don't Go Jumping Waterfalls
Please Keep To The Lake
People Who Jump Waterfalls
Sometimes Cam Make Mistakes
And I Need Love, Yeah I Need Love
Like A Second Needs An Hour
Like A Raindrop Needs A Shower
Yeah I Need Love Every Minute Of The Day
And It Wouldn't Be The Same
If You Ever Should Decide To Go Away

And I Need Love, Yeah I Need Love
Like A Castle Needs A Tower
Like A Garden Needs A Flower
Yeah I Need Love Every Minute Of The Day
And It Wouldn't Be The Same
If You Ever Should Decide To Go Away

Don't Go Chasing Polar Bears
In The Great Unknown
Some Big Friendly Polar Bear
Might Want To Take You Home

And I Need Love, Yeah I Need Love
Like A Second Needs An Hour
Like A Raindrop Needs A Shower
Yeah I Need Love Every Minute Of The Day
And It Wouldn't Be The Same
If You Ever Should Decide To Go Away

Don't Run After Motor Cars
Please Stay On The Side
Someone's Glossy Motor Car
Might Take You For A Ride

And I Need Love, Yeah I Need Love
Like A Castle Needs A Tower
Like A Garden Needs A Flower
Yeah I Need Love, Said I Need Love
Like A Raindrop Needs A Shower
Like A Second Needs An Hour
Every Minute Of The Day
And It Wouldn't Be The Same
If You Ever Should Decide To Go Away

Was this a song TLC based theirs on, or did he base his on theirs?

I've never come across this before...

Wow, oh no no no no, Paul would never base this song on TLC, that is absurd! This song is older than TLC'S, if anything they copied HIS song.

Anyway, this song is just gorgeous, Paul is a legend.

Paul's song predates TLC's by years.

This song is essentially about as heart-wrenching of a tune that Paul can write. The original version on McCartney II is a bit too long and he made some wise edits on the more recent version appearing on Wingspan. His vocal delivery is odd in that he gives a seemingly tired or pleading 'old man' rasp approach. This adds to the pathos. The lyrics are the typical nursery rhyme derivative that Paul dips into maybe too often, but it works here. The musical accompaniment is a sparse synthesizer or two and some vocal overdubbing. It isn't technically perfect at all and almost sounds like one of his notorious studio quickie knockoffs. Despite that the melody is a haunting plea that can send chills down a spine. It's tunes like these that keep McCartney fans remembering that the old boy can still write some of the best melodic stuff around.

My Opinion

I think this song is about Paul's dog Martha. I read somewhere that this song's album, McCartney II, was made after Paul moved out to the country. My guess is that home gave Martha plenty of countryside to roam in. Paul must have been worried about Martha's well being.

Song Meaning

uhh, this song is lowkey dark in my opinion. I love it but it sounds like he is telling someone tto not kill themselves because he loves them. Like dont jump off waterfalls cuz some people make mistakes. Uhhh people jump off high places to end things. Dont go chasing polar bears because they will take you home. Polar bears are dangerous and would probably kill you and take you home to eat. Paul wrote something about not chasing motorcars but I dont know if its in the lyrics up there. Some people walk into traffic to ya know and he is saying not to because he loves then and needs them. This is just my interpenetration.

@maya101956 Or him asking people or people he loves to not do dangerous things.
