Bonnie Brae Lyrics

There was a rapture
So I can never see you anymore
Nothing is believable
Walking into sweet oblivion

Not saying it's easy, no no
To feel it all or not at all
Somebody say, lay down your gun
And when you lay it down get ready to run

Situation entire
It's gone away, it's not goin' away
Since you're wasting time again, my friend
On Bonnie Brae, on Bonnie Brae, on Bonnie Brae

If she's your master
Then get down on your knees and beg for more
Not saying it's easier
To live your life like a little whore

'Cause when you play with fire
Take your fate, it's not going away
Situation entire
On Bonnie Brae, on Bonnie Brae, on Bonnie Brae

The soul, the screen, the smoke in between
The rise, the fall, the thrill of
The first, the last, the sins of the past
The burn, the fade, the skin that you flayed

Come see the sun kill everyone
But me, I'm free
And you'd better bleed again

There was a rapture
So I can never see you anymore
Not saying it's easier
Not saying it's easier

Wish I knew what it was about. Sounds like something was really good so he's running off.

Does anyone know how this relates to Mark Lanegan then?

Supposedly last year some time, Lanegan had a relapse of sorts, a nearly fatal one. Dulli, his best friend who has experienced a similar lifestyle, allegedly wrote this song as his reaction to Lanegan's struggles. The term itself, "Bonnie Brae," is a popular drug spot in LA. Taken in this light, it's not hard to see this song as a plea from one friend to another.

Dulli has said he gets disturbed when he hears about people naming their kid Bonnie brae or using it as a love song (akin to every breath you take)

Heard this as the background to a ytmnd (the one about the most depressing Garfield ever). Had never heard of them even though I'm from Ohio. Great, great song.

Also heard this song from that site. This song took on a whole new meaning a few weeks later when a girl that I had been "wasting time on" crushed my heart, but that's another story. The version on the YTMND site doesn't have the more upbeat ending, which I discovered about the time I started getting over her.

Interesting to know now that the girl in the song is a metaphor.

it's about being addicted to drugs, it makes sense if you read it.

This song was mesmerizing to me on the Rescue Me sound track. When I learned the meaning behind it, the song just touched me even more deeply. What a passionate plea to a friend. I love this song.
