Lubbock or Leave it Lyrics
Dust bowl, Bible belt
Got more churches than trees
Raise me, praise me, couldn't save me
Couldn't keep me on my knees
Oh, boy, rave on down loop 289
That'll be the day you see me back
In this fool's paradise
Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Throwing stones from the top of your rock
Thinking no one can see
The secrets you hide behind
Your southern hospitality
On the strip the kids get lit
So they can have a real good time
Come Sunday they can just take their pick
From the crucifix skyline
Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Get to heaven now
International airport
A quarter after nine
Paris Texas, Athens Georgia's
Not what I had in mind
As I'm getting out I laugh to myself
Cause this is the only place
Where as you're getting on the plane
You see Buddy Holly's face
I hear they hate me now
Just like they hated you
Maybe when I'm dead and gone
I'm gonna get a statue too
Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Get to heaven now

its kinda a "omg you guys hate me, how will I get live?!?!" with a huge sarcastic eye roll at the end.
its just a song to pretend she cares about all those who hate her...but she doesn't..this song shows the total bitch part of natalie and the chicks..but I love em for it.
I think it's about the kind of conservative christian right in any American small town- Lubbock specifically, but it could be about any small, closed-minded town. It's kind of about the hypocrisy of the christian right and how they want to think everyone who isn't exactly like them or doesn't believe in the same things they do is going to hell.

haha, i love this song, especially the part where its like "international airport...paris, texas, athens georgia's not what i had in mind"
It's a funny, togue in cheek song that pokes fun at the Christian Right. They've been talking about that alot in interviews recently, so it's something that's on their minds.
if you see the movie Shut Up and Sing natalie says this song is about how she is from the same town as buddy holly and he was hated and she is hated in her own town... she does a better job of telling the story.
I love this song. This song definitely is about the towns like Lubbock and how their citizens think. You know, this song describes too well. With the so-called "Christian" attitudes, being obligated to think one way, and the rebellion.
The lines,
"I hear they hate me now, just like they hated you Maybe when I'm dead and gone I'm gonna get a statue too",
I believe refer to Jesus who was hated by the general populace in his day just as so many rightwingers hated the Chicks when all this bush BS broke. I'm surprised they didn't latch onto this and say the Chicks think they're Christ or some BS like that what with their distorted manipulations of incidents.
I'm curious if there's any reference to possible tampering of their plane on flights out of places like this by the lines,
"As I'm getting out I laugh to myself 'Cause this is the only place Where as you're getting on the plane You see Buddy Holly's face"
I know they had to be extremely fearful of what these rightwing nutjobs would do to them what with all the threats they got. I would have. Some of them are the same extremist gun rights advocates we see now.
Can't wait to see them in Tampa FL in Aug. 2016!!!
