Half A Canyon Lyrics
Ah shit, baby
Canyon broke, your life is worked in
Dream about the witch trials
You get all too hot of pepper
In your forecast
Beneath the shady mezzanine
Keep it when you want to belong
July fourth, raging fortune
Dream about the witch trials
Send in the romance of people
With their dreadlocks
Tied like windshields in the night
Keep it when you want to belong
I keep my head on for pretty jades
I keep my head up for ships and shade
I keep my head up for Richie Raid?
I keep my head up for guilty rays?
(Feel like I'm falling!)
Allez! allez! allez! allez!
Allez! allez! allez! allez!
I can't believe I'm still going!
I can't believe I'm still going!
Canyon broke, your life is worked in
Dream about the witch trials
You get all too hot of pepper
In your forecast
Beneath the shady mezzanine
Keep it when you want to belong
July fourth, raging fortune
Dream about the witch trials
Send in the romance of people
Tied like windshields in the night
Keep it when you want to belong
I keep my head on for pretty jades
I keep my head up for ships and shade
I keep my head up for Richie Raid?
I keep my head up for guilty rays?
(Feel like I'm falling!)
Allez! allez! allez! allez!
Allez! allez! allez! allez!
I can't believe I'm still going!

"Tied like witches in the night"? Tied to the stake. Keeping his head up while he's burning alive...
This song is just stoned jargon. "Tied like windshields in the night"? yeah sure steve...whatever.
July 4th, ragin' fortune. Cocky drunken summer bliss.
Such an epic drone at the end.. a great jam.
Pretty sure the first line is "Canyon broke," hence "Half a Canyon."
Other than that, acorm88 is right. This is nothing but stoned rambling with a killer psych-jam at the end.
I thought he was saying 'MENSA people with their dreadlocks'...
a much funnier interpretation.
I'm pretty sure he's screeching at the end before allez
Oh, My, God I can't believe, I can't believe My, God I can't believe I'm still goin'
This is my favorite part. The band total just throws it all out there and rips it up on this track.
this jam sounds so good on the Slow Century DVD. Pavement are such a great live band.
I think this song is about listening to the album. Listen very closely to the Malkmus howl at the end. It's subtle.
Was surprised to hear that the lyrics of this song are a reference to the sound of Stereolab, another favourite band of mine. Makes sense though.
