Golden Jackal Song Lyrics
well I swung through town
shining like a new quarter
felt something sharp rise up within me
when I crossed the border
stopped at the gas station payphone
I let my fingers fly
the wicked impulses were dying
but I couldn't let them die
we were over at your place
singin about the old times
I ate so much (carrion)?
that I could not move
I was bloated
when I saw you in the kitchen
glistening like the old country
all your cups and glasses
lined up in front of me
I stopped at the faucet for a minute
waited til you came in to see what was wrong
your fingers brushed my ribs playfully
and I played along
you had your tongue in my mouth
your eyes glistening in the light
I ate rich raw carrion
til I could not think
I was full
shining like a new quarter
felt something sharp rise up within me
when I crossed the border
stopped at the gas station payphone
I let my fingers fly
the wicked impulses were dying
but I couldn't let them die
we were over at your place
singin about the old times
I ate so much (carrion)?
that I could not move
I was bloated
glistening like the old country
all your cups and glasses
lined up in front of me
I stopped at the faucet for a minute
waited til you came in to see what was wrong
your fingers brushed my ribs playfully
and I played along
you had your tongue in my mouth
your eyes glistening in the light
I ate rich raw carrion
til I could not think
I was full

i just started listening to this song a lot and i can feel that there's some ridiculous story being told, but here's my take: the relationship is essentially dead, but why give up a constant like that. or, more simply, why give up an easy lay like that. so he's kinda feasting on the rotting emotion that he's too pushy to give up on. he's staying around her until he feels sick or full or potentially contented. either way, he regards the relationship as dead/carrion.
Fabulous interpretation, schmoozyduh - I've been agonising about this one and what the jackal symbolism could mean for ages, and that just seems to fit perfectly.
Pretty good scmooz. I think it goes a step further. I think he is talking about an old flame from somewhere he used to live. The relationship was obviously toxic. He knew he shouldn't go back and rekindle the relationship but he indulged anyway. He knew it wasn't good for him but once he had a little he, like a jackal, had as much as he could stand. Beautiful song.
