Pure Love Lyrics
hey, what's wrong with you?
hey, what are you trying to do?
'cause if what you had in mind
is what i think it is
then it's not very kind
and it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
hey, what are you doing, my love?
hey, didn't i just tell you that such a thing
would be over and above what's called for in this case
pull the ski mask away from your face
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
hey, what are you trying to do?
'cause if what you had in mind
is what i think it is
then it's not very kind
and it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
hey, didn't i just tell you that such a thing
would be over and above what's called for in this case
pull the ski mask away from your face
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now
it won't be necessary
it won't be necessary now

Basically: No need to rape me, I'll gladly give it to you consensually!
As far as I can see anyway...
This song is about the terrifying moment when a dysfunctional relationship ends badly and you lay awake at night anxious considering the ways in which the other person might try to get back at you. You're powerless since you've given up all the emotional leverage you've ever had over them and what you DID have was toxic to begin with.
The little quaver in JD's voice when he says "Heey, what are you doing my love?" is the moment you realize they are gonna rage right through you and never look back. The speaker is desperately trying to communicate that the emoional violence serves no purpose anymore. Yikes. I've been here and it's nerve wracking.
