The Doll Song Lyrics
i've got seven little dolls
in a bag
and i tell the dolls my troubles
and the dolls say "nag! nag! nag! nag!
is that all you ever do?
is that all you're capable of?"
and i say to the little dolls
you have no compassion
baby, i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i started reading the bible
I corinthians 13
where paul talks all about love
but i don't know what he means
because he says that love is kind
that hasn't been my experience
so i set the bible on the kitchen table
and yelled at it until i was unable yeah
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
in a bag
and i tell the dolls my troubles
and the dolls say "nag! nag! nag! nag!
is that all you ever do?
is that all you're capable of?"
and i say to the little dolls
you have no compassion
baby, i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
I corinthians 13
where paul talks all about love
but i don't know what he means
because he says that love is kind
that hasn't been my experience
so i set the bible on the kitchen table
and yelled at it until i was unable yeah
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you
i'm talking to inanimate objects over you

JD also says this is a VERY early Mountain Goats song, and even though this song is not a masterpiece you can definitely tell what was coming...
i love this song
john says he hates his song, but it's my favourite!
I love the allusion to I corinthians 13. He also has another song entitled I Corintians 13 8-10, which basically restates what John says in the second verse; that love isn't what everyone says it is.
Actually, acowkickedme, I think the point he makes in "I Corinthians 13 8-10" (the song) is exactly the opposite of the point he makes in this - in that song, the love shared between the two characters is the one thing of beauty between them in a moment of absolute destruction.
Here, the protagonist clearly makes the point that love is unkind - in that way, exactly the point you made "it isn't what everyone says it is".
