This Is How It Feels

I think it's about depression. I also think the first to verses are two seperate examples.

In the first, the mother is suffering, and neither the husband or the kids can understand what's happening. This happened happened when I was a kid. I think if the husband was having an affair, he'd know what he'd done.

And I think the second verse, the note left is a suicede note (seperate incident), that was heard on the grapevine (black car - hearse) guy leaving a note for a local girl, when he had it all on a plate (everything to live for)

The whole song is about depression and loneliness.

The first verse is definitely about the depression of the mother, and her husband thinking he's to blame, but they can't tell the kids hence it is put down to "another bad day".

The "black car" definitely refers to a hearse. Of course, these are not the original lyrics. The original second verse was:

"There's a funeral in the town some guy from the top estate it seems they found him under a train and yet he had it all on a plate".

When you see this it becomes clear that a man who was seemingly doing well in life threw himself under a train as a result of his depression. Sadly, they had to change the train reference following the tragic murder of James Bulger.

There's two versions of this song, two chapters if you like. The first is about the guy from the 'top' estate in his black car Jaguar perhaps, leaving the note for the local girl, who is 'Mum', the other version is about a funeral in the town, 'seems they found him under a train, yet he had it all on a plate'. Which I think means that he killed himself over her, and left her a note telling her. Quite dark really.

what an ace tune, a bit depressing in it's lyrical content, but still a bit of a good mood track...if that makes any sense

This is about suicide, black car is the hearse, the note is the suicide note, perhaps the 'local girl' is 'mum'??

It all centres around the mother. In the past she had a relationship/affair with the chap from the top estate. She is married(maybe) to the man she lives with and their children. This is how it feels to be lonely is from the mother's view as she lives with a man who she no longer loves and only thinks of the chap who has commited suicide, her husband probably doesn't love her, as he makes her feel small and her words mean nothing at all to him. She can't say and they can't see, is because no one knew of their secret affair. He can't go on without her especially now she's with someone else. The sad part to me is that maybe she felt trapped in a marriage with a guy who would have never let her go. If he's thinks nothing of her then he would probably be violent as well, but, that's not mentioned, I just think a maybe. Song lyrics are amazing when you break every single word down, except nonsense lyrics, which are fun in a different way.

Basically, that feeling, of no one understanding you, how your feeling and feel like your trapped in a box and you can't get out!
