Sound the Surrender Lyrics

This moment marks the severing of senses, comatose distinctions,
the gathering of flies on a irrational mind filled with broken conviction.

I've seen how lies take form in your eyes, your suspicious ways followed a hollow gaze.
You fucking left me to rot but one day you'll see first hand how I've paid for your biggest mistake.

Sound the surrender, embraced in vain.
What will you gain from this, what will you lose?

Secrets hidden behind your back, your silence it serenades deceit.
Secrets hidden behind your back, your forever ideal fantasy.

Sound the surrender, embraced in vain.
What will you gain from this, what will you lose?

This moment marks the severing of senses, comatose distictions,
the gathering of flies on a irrational mind filled with broken convictions.

Sound the surrender.
You've gained all you could from this.
Sound the surrender.
But you've lost the only one.

Wow. i cant believe no one's commented this song yet.

I think it might have something to do with someone who was stabbed in the back and is getting revenge... i'm probably wrong

I think it's about his girlfriend lying to him [I've seen how lies take form in your eyes] & not telling him everything [Secrets hidden behind your back]

And he WILL take revenge

I was wondering the same thing, this song is ridiculously sweet.

This song definitely reminds me of some sort of abusive relationship where problems were covered with physical comfort "embraced in vain". Sounds like both parties let themselves be seduced but it could be just that the narrator is finally opening their eyes to the person that they have given in to. This dissolution leads to the kind of explosiveness in this song. The riff that hits right at the chorus is one of my favorites. The whole song is a reminder to myself about not giving control of my life to others.

I think this song is about the current state of America. I personally believe he uses the idea of a relationship gone sour to describe how the current administration continually goes against the popular voice of the people thus making it feel like being stabbed in the back.

Oh man oh man, if I had a dollar for every time I've broken down to this song, I'd have gas money all week long. Something about this song hits me so hard, and the solo makes me think of anxiety and nervous breakdowns, where everything is crazy and racing, and you can't slow it down.

this is the reason why he probably wrote with a thousand words to say but one, because, in with a thousand words to say but one, he talks like he didn't trust her and he did get revenge. and he feels bad, and just wants everything to be okay again.

i find so much to relate with darkest hour. IF this is what he is really talking about.

I couldnt agree more. Jonh Henry is amazing.

I agree with kansas totally. I am the dude in the video (shot in Great Falls, VA), in the mask with devil horns, and there numerous shots from the video that did not make the final cut that confirm this!

To me its about the break up. Its the follow up to "With A Thousand Words To Say but One" on the album. Hes getting revenge for what she did to him. Hes pissed now. Thats why its one of the more fast paced song on the album. The solo and the double kick has tons of anxiety and they showed the craziness of it all in the video when the guys head starts spinning all crazy.

Instrumentally this is one of my favourite darkest hour songs, i love the riffs, that catchy guitar part in the chorus and the really cool solo.

In my opinion i think this song is about a break up, i think he is pissed off because she left him and he says that she will regret it, but at the same time he knows that maybe it was the best thing for her.

These are the parts of the song that give me that feeling:

"Sound the surrender, embraced in vain. What will you gain from this, what will you lose?"

(...)

"Sound the surrender. You've gained all you could from this. Sound the surrender. But you've lost the only one."
