Day is Gone

From what I knew, heard and, especially, felt, Tim was creative and hyperactive man, who hated boredom most than all of things. He had a quite some songs about boredom, but I believe its his best.

Invited us to our home for some soup - seems like the most "mature" and least exciting way to communicate between "adult people", communicating not for exchanging new ideas, exploring thing, or having fun, but to eat some regular food together

Bothered by steam - steam from the soup is "the most exciting" thing that can happen in this boredom situtation

We clipped our wing, so we can't fly - I hope I don't need to explain this

Better than better than what? Some dying off, A rocket ship - I'm not sure what rocket ship part means to mean, but protagonist (I believe Tim meant himself) compares dying as the only thing that can be worse than boredom

Everyone's trying to leave - everybody's had enough of their usual activities and are feeling fulfilled, while protoganist feels it all was empty

Lorries driving to the sea - while travelling could be fun for home/office persons, for drivers, getting their lorry to the sea seem as a quite routine thing

Who is that who slammed the door? - after all the boring routine, the protagonist feels unsatisfied with having guests in his house and feels his mind and emotions aren't fulfilled by the end of the day

More active than scraps alive, Sleep for weeks but often stirring - protagonist compares routine to being asleep, while being active

More alive than anyone swears, As born were we from hollow trees - people who are used to boredom believe that their routine are interesting, so they are feel "alive", even if everything they do feel like a waste of time for protagonist or people surronding hime

Looks as if a day has gone away - I hope I don't need to explain this

While most of Cardiacs songs are quite cryptic, this one has one of the most straightforward messages
