Nineteen Lyrics

Ancient sore oculi
Couldn't see the change
But blissful lights still happen
Through the darkest days
She strokes her hair
In the bathroom sink
It lost volume
It lost the will to give

I gave up
On falling asleep
As the hands began to shove

Before you've even seen it
The old horizon's gone
Another recollection
Of the blind, deaf summer sun.

But eyes are not the be all
And end all of the west
The east may hold a pair now
But maybe just address the doubts you have
There's no great rush to make this change

She showed some sense some time ago
When she was happy
She thought that this would make her happier.

I've told you for the fifth time
I've told you for the twelfth
I'll give up just when you will
You better warn yourself
You'll get left back
In the cold and rain

And now and again
Balancing your roles
I see you get bogged down
And though you say it's not good
Your life still lingers on
And so now, little gosling,
Don't become a swan.

I tried to be so special
And I thought I was alone
I wanted to be special
But I failed us all

So please, now,
Please just trust me
Your life still lingers on
And so now, little gosling
Don't become a swan.

this was such a shock when i got the album. about as far away from their early stuff as you can possibly get but still managing to sound iFR! through and through. i dont know how they do it.

as for the meaning of the song, i used to think i nailed it and it was just a bit of a philosophical one about life and moving on, especially with the "before you've even seen it the old horizon's gone" line. but looking at the lyrics again they dont seem very general at all and are clearly focused on something else.

i dunno...

All FR's lyrics are very focused on particular things (or perhaps a particular thing...), but it's hard to say what. Anyway, this is a very lovely song.

I think this song is about how someone isn't being theirself and changing for the worse,

"Ancient sore oculi Couldn't see the change" Meaning you cant see the change with your eyes.

"And so now, little gosling, Don't become a swan." Don't change what you are.

"She thought that this would make her happier." She thought being different would make her feel better but "I wanted to be special But I failed us all" would suggest it wasn't a good idea to change.

I'd like to know what you mean by their early stuff and possibly point me in the direction of it unless you are talking about the demos of the songs one to nineteen.

I think anelectricslave was probably referring to the demos, yeah, seeing as they cover every FR! song (or at least, all the ones that the fans know about). I don't know how you can get them these days; there used to be a sticky thread in the FR! forum linking right to them, so I don't think the band mind them being shared.

I have quite a lot of the demos and most of them are near identical to the final version, apart from four, lyrics there are changed. I'll look about on the FR forum to see what i can find though if anelectricslave wasn't referring to what i'm thinking of.

yeah i was refering to the demos. i got em all off the forum quite a while ago when that thread was still up. its since gone though.

i absolutely love those lines. i have absolutely no idea what this song means though, and i don't even think i really want to know... i like how obscure the lyrics of all forward russia's songs are.

actually, going back through the lyrics, i think (but i'm not sure, since this band is so deep!) that it's about a girl who's considering suicide, or who is at least depressed, and he's trying to convince her not to.
