Oceans Lyrics
You've got flaws
That you wont admit
Yet you tell me its a sin
That I don't believe in God
You traded in your cross
For a chance to dance with stars
Now nothing is sacred
Ooo
I've given thought to leaving
Ooo
For some time
Ooo
If only I could read a map
My moat is New Mexico
So it's you I wrote
I started sending you a note
On how I hope that you're happy
I hear you're somewhere in the sand
And how I wish I was an ocean
Maybe then I'd get to see you again
Now all my friends
They break and they bend
They take shape and they tend
To get better with time
And I say:
"Who am I to work so much less to get more?
You all deserve what I am walking towards
If you want, you should move away,"
Ooo
This has become a weakness
Ooo
The golden state wins again
Ooo
Perhaps it's time I settle down
Say its blue, at least that's a plus
Plus, I miss you so much
Why am I scared of people in a room?
Why can't they see a good time are the people close to you?
Why don't I just give in, have a drink and shake some hands?
Oh ay oh
Oh ay oh
Why am I scarred from what she did to me?
Why can't I trust anyone, no, not even me?
why don't I just give in, have a drink and shake some hands?
Oh ah oh
Oh ah oh
Ooo
I've given thought to leavin'
Ooo
For some time
Ooo
Maybe it's time I put a profile up of who I want to be
Fool everyone, I can start over clean
I can hide behind a big blue screen
You can return to me
(Return to me...)
That you wont admit
Yet you tell me its a sin

a great song from their new cd dog problems. the song is about a long distance relationship and how he really questions his relationship betweeh himself and his friends/the main woman in his life. a nice chill song to listen to on a summer day :)
this song is about how he misses someone who left Arizona (where Nate is from) to go to California. He wants to follow her. She is "somewhere in the sand" (the beach) "dancing with the stars" (Hollywood), he "wants to be an ocean" (the pacific) so he can see her again. New Mexico is his moat that he can't seem to cross (yeah, it's not DIRECTLY between AZ and CA, but it's poetic license). "The golden state wins again" (California). Finally, he considers leaving and says "it's blue at least that's a plus" (California is a Democratic State, Arizona is Republican, 'red').
I like the similar lyrics in this song to those in "Dear Boy":
"Why can't I trust anyone, no, not even me?" and "Who do you trust I don't trust nobody Not even her? No, not even me"
I LOVE THIS BAND ALMOST AS MUCH AS BEENIE BABIES!!
the lyrics are definitely "the state is blue, at least that's a plus." Nate is from Arizona which is a lot more conservative than California. he's trying to come up with reasons to go to California, other than the fact that he misses her, and that's one of the reasons he wants to leave. plus, all of his references to not being a religious person make me think he's also pretty liberal.
"Maybe it's time I put a profile up of who I want to be Fool everyone, just to start over clean I can hide behind a big blue screen"
i think this is another reference to online dating, like the one in Dog Problems. since he couldn't change himself for this girl, he thinks maybe it will be easier to adopt a new persona if he does it online.
I think it says.... "why can't I trust anyone, no, not even me?" :P
"the golden state wins again"
because i'm obsessed with references to california.. this part seems to be that california won the girl who left him over and she moved there.
but honestly why wouldnt she want to move to CA. haha
love it
my favorite on the cd after "if works permits"
i think the song is about a relationship that ended because religion. he doesn't believe in God and she says she does now, but she doesnt really. and she moved away from them and he's thinking he could change, believe in God or maybe.. she could come back to him. but i could be so wrong. something about religion maybe though.
I think it's more:
I think it's more:
Nate: "I don't believe in God/formal religion." Girl: "I do. Firmly." Nate: "Cool, I guess this is just difference we'll have to deal with."
