Razzle Dazzle Rose

The first thing that came to mind when I read the lyrics was the book "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey. it's about James Frey recovering from a decade of drug addiction. In the rehabilitation center, he is given a workbook by his counselor, and he reminisces about razzle dazzle rose being his favorite color when he was a child.

Not sure if the song is directly related, but there are a lot of similarities.

the best part of this song is clearly the fact that they're singing about a flourescent crayola crayon colour available from 1990-1992. it totally reminds me of elementary school, and i love that. it was my favourite crayon!

I think it's about someone who is older reflecting on their life. That they lived a good life that was authentic to themselves. "When I choose my colour" to me is about someone choosing their path in life, "be razzle dazzle rose" means be the best in your path, be the most hardworking or genuine or awesome version of that colour.

This idea is strengthened by the lyrics "courage my love will make me bolder". She's saying that in your chosen path, you will need courage to be the best version of whatever you want to be. The lyrics "expecting softness can lead to foolishness" is telling us that if one expects the path to be easy, then you're foolish. At least this is what I can gather from the second verse.

In the first verse, she says "I was lucky like a four-leaf clover". If I am continuing my logic that this song is about reflecting on a life well lived, I would interpret this lyric to mean that she was lucky in that she got to do what she wanted to do, her passion that she excelled in. Then the lyric "tried to be happy, but it wasn't easy" again reflects the idea that she had to work hard to be her best in life. Maybe that hard work didn't always make her the happiest, but she tried, and ultimately is passing on the advice of what will make us happy is trying to excel at something that is authentically ourselves.

this is a great song, though the lyrics may be sparse. the opening is great. it gets me everytime when she says "courage my love..."

A Beautiful song. I love the bass line, it sounds very familiar too.

Someone once told me that this song suited me somehow. I had never heard it. Of course, I checked it out and now this is one of my favourite bands. Their sound is so melancholy and beautiful. It makes me feel nostalgic or something :)

This song gives me a feeling of incredible happiness, but, at the same time, it saddens me. Its beautiful.

I guess the song is about growing up, things changing. The singer is 'trying' to be happy, but isn't.

"Expecting softness can lead to foolishness"

My interpretation of this line is that the singer put their faith in a friend or lover, by trusting them. The singer was then hurt/betrayed. The song gives me the a feeling of nostalgia.
