I Know I'll Never Leave Lyrics

There's something going on round here, inthis neighbourhood
But what it is I'm not quite sure, in this neighbourhood
I just can't put my finger on, what makes me bite my nails
And later on I'll feel the same, as though I would

The people never say hello, they just walk on past
I try to look inside those cars, but it's blackened glass
I hear the screams late at night, behind my bedroom wall
And later on I'll do the same, and hear the drunkman call

Well I know I'll never leave...cos there's no way out for me
Now and then I tend to dream...dream of what I might be

Well I know I'll never leave...cos there's no way out for me
There's a fear that I know...if I left where would I go?

The pavemnet has a cactus skin, and a knife-like edge
My feet keep sticking to the floor, where my toes have bled
I hear the screams late at night, behind my bedroom wall
And later on I'll do the same, and hear the drunk man call

Where's the love that I once had? It's dying somewhere in the past
I sold my TV, radio. To someone, someone I don't know

Well I know I'll never leave, 'cos there's no way out for me
There's a fear that I know, if I left where would I go?

(Kick-ass sax and electric guitar solos)

*Chorus repeat*

i like the sound of the song but tends to be very melodramatic imho.i love other zutons songs very much though.I think the song refers to all of us that we're stranded by apathy and self pity and don't allow ourselves to change positively,or dream of better things.

I agree with alameals...thinking about it, it must be a drug addiction. It's a horrible world, the singer can't find a way out and he doesn't know where he can go so he can finally leave them behind. There is a kind of desperation about this song. The people that never say hello that just walk on past and the ones that are in the cars with the blackened windows are so-called 'ordinary' people that choose to ignore such addicts as if they don't exist. the only companion he has is the drunk man, and he can't help the singer as he is in a similar situation. He cannot leave, he has no money as he has sold his TV and radio to get money for more drugs. I may be completely wrong though, it could just be a bad neighbourhood. (I hope not!!)
