I saw it coming
I just thought that you should know
I'm feeling better every day
I'm only waiting if you stay
So don't feel bad
Your faith was an illusion
And you're as loyal as your faith
Will let you be

Your expectation
It's not hard to live without
I'm feeling better every day
And emptiness still leaves a space
So don't feel bad
You lost all your emotion
And may you find all your relations
Will keep you free

A careless bird is complicated
An empty nest still leaves a space

i just heard this song today and i already love it so.. she knew whatever relationship she was in was ending maybe she didnt want it to end, but she knew was going to happen she is feeling better everyday, little by little, but maybe its just because shes telling herself that she has to feel better, like thats the thing someone has to do in her situation then she says "im only waiting if you stay" shell wait for whoever it is if they stay for her so she still has emotions for this person, but knows that no matter how much her heart wants to be with that person, her head is telling her if they dont stay she should move on too their faith was an illusion, they lied, they left her they werent loyal to the realationship

"your expectation" whoever shes talking about had expectations that she couldnt fulfill and she feels better about not having to live up to their expectations but theres still an emptiness in her heart where that person once was, will it ever be filled? who she was with lost their feelings for her, maybe they never really felt the same way she did and then she hopes that all that persons future realtionships keep them free, free of emotion, so they wont get attached

a person who never truely puts themselves into a relationship is complicated to deal with you dont know what theyre thinking or how they feel how do you deal with them?

when that person leaves her, leaves everyone else in their future, they leave a space in every persons heart, the emptiness was once filled by their "love" but a "careless bird" never really loves, a careless bird doesnt really understand it or maybe theyre afraid

is the song really about the narrator? or the careless bird leaving her?

the speaker is trying to get over her lover or friend or whoever she loved someone and they didnt feel the same its kind of simple

but the "complicated bird" seems a lot more...complicated =p

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
