Let's Impeach The President Lyrics
Let's Impeach the President for lyin'
And misleading our country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all our money out the door
Who's the man who hired all the criminals?
The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors
They bend the facts to fit with their new story
Of why we had to send our men to war
Let's Impeach the President for spyin'
On citizens inside their own homes
Breaking every law in the country
Tapping our computers and telephones
What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees
Would New Orleans have been safer that way
Sheltered by our government's protection
Or was someone just not home that day?
<i>Flip!
"All I can tell you is that Osama Bin Laden is a prime suspect."
Flop!
"I don't know where he is... I just don't spend that much time on him."
Flip!
"I want him held.. I want justice... Dead or Alive!"
Flop!
Flip!
"Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists."
Flop!
"Including members of al-Qaeda"
Flip!
"I know I didn't say there was a direct connection between September 11th..."
Flop!

Flip!
"War is my last choice."
Flop!
"We're gonna smoke 'em out! Bring 'em on."

Let's impeach the president for hijacking
Our religion and using it to get elected
Dividing our country intro colors
And still leaving black people neglected
Thank god he's cracking down on steroids
Since he sold his old baseball team
There's lots of people looking at big trouble
But of course the president is clean
Thank god
And misleading our country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all our money out the door
The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors

Dang it! You bet me to uploading this song.

I love that Neil doesn't even mess with being suble or even tactful-- he makes sure EVERYONE knows what he's thinking, and speaks for those of us who agree with him.
It's almost like Neil Young's body of work is so vast, so wide, so accessible, and so often-updated that he can effortlessly reach back to whatever musical and thematic styles he needs to supplement his current emotional creativity. So finds Young, in 2006, recording and releasing a studio-written original album in the span of 4 weeks. He understands not only this amazingly shocking-yet-forseen place America finds itself in but also the way a popular artist might go about speaking to, and with, his audience about the realizition of finding oneself in such a place. To some, Neil Young might not have sprinted with the Beatles, the Stones or Dylan but he's surely runs the distances with no peer. Let's Impeach The President, and Living With War as a whole, might be Neil's last push towards the big blue line at Copley.....but perhaps he is just catching another wind along Heartbreak Hill. Only more distance will tell.
Buddha: Welcome to the human race. It's a protest song. It's not meant to be subtle. It's message is meant to be instantly clear and memorable.
You've heard other protest songs such as "War". It's chorus is meant to go straight in.
I forgot to mention this...
What's Neil's religion? The words "our religion" seems to imply he's a Christian or half-arsed or fake Christian like Dubya. Yet in the documentary "Year of the Horse", he's asking such fundamentally simple questions as what's the difference between the Old and New Testaments.
The sad thing about this brave song, is that it makes most of the pop-rock song out there seem meaningless. What happened to the voices of the generations that came after Young? where is their voice? why is Young the only political song writer out there?
elwyn5150 Do you have to be insulting, You sound like a Corporate tool. Free Yourself
locksmith, bright eyes has a song called "when the president talks to god" its pretty good straightforward song to call out bush also.
plenty of good political song writers out there just not in the mainstream on the radio....any anti-fag cd once they matured out of teenage punk writing is purely political...propaghandi...etc...

The meaning of this song is as clear as clear can be.
The most indisputably factual song ever written. Anyone who disputes the inevitable reality presented by these lyrics is not sane.
