Going to Marrakesh Lyrics
the fog is lifting from the water.
the bells are sounding on the boats.
and our love is a monster plain and simple.
though you weight it down with stones to try to drown it,
it floats.
it floats.
the day of reckoning is coming
faster than anyone here realizes.
and our love is like jesus, but worse.
though you seal the cave up where you've lain its body,
it rises.
it rises.
i keep waiting for our love to die.
the machines by its bed dim and flicker, but it won't stay dead.
and it perks up when the nurses bring its medication by.
i wish our love could go the way of all flesh.
but it's not right, and its not nice
to try and kill the same thing twice.
would you pack your things?
we are going to marrakesh.
the bells are sounding on the boats.
and our love is a monster plain and simple.
though you weight it down with stones to try to drown it,
it floats.
it floats.
faster than anyone here realizes.
and our love is like jesus, but worse.
though you seal the cave up where you've lain its body,
it rises.
it rises.
the machines by its bed dim and flicker, but it won't stay dead.
and it perks up when the nurses bring its medication by.
but it's not right, and its not nice
to try and kill the same thing twice.
would you pack your things?
we are going to marrakesh.

i honestly adore this song. it's like, two people who were once in love, and it ended badly, but it keeps reigniting. i just love it.
This song is not by the Mountain Goats.
It's by The Extra Glenns, a side project of John Darnielle.
He plays it under the name 'The Mountain Goats,' and honestly trying to separate John from the Goats is impossible. Wherever there's John, there's Goats.
I think this might honestly be the archetypal Mountain Goats song. Out love is dying, it honestly should be dead, I don't even want it anymore, but it's still there. We're still there. And we're going to stay alive together. Damn.
I think this song is talking about having an affair.. They know they shouldn't be together and they're trying to end it but they can't because for some reason they're just really attached to each other even though they can't stop fighting. Maybe they're fighting because they know they can't be together because of their spouses. In verse 2 it says "the day of reckoning is coming" and I think that "the day of reckoning" is the day that everyone wil figure it out. I think that when it says "though you seal the cave up where you've lain it's body it rises, it rises" i think that means though they try to hide all the evidence of their affair, it will eventually be found out by someone. Etc that's just what I think it means :) great song.
Every Mountain Goats' song is about dying love. Every single one. I'd like to think these are all different women and not the same abusive relationship, a la the Alpha couple.
