for me it's about a breakup and going from sadness, depression to acceptence of it
In my eyes, it's all about distance. awesome song.
i think this might be about someone liek a friend goin into depression and him tryin to act like it wasnt happenging. and he relizies that this tears him apart and he cant stand and he wants to be "woken" up when its all over
freaking shot in the dark, but here goes: i hear them singing alot about a rescue or something, so maybe one of the members is somehow affiliated with emergency services, be it a family member, or a friend. i haven't read about it, so i dont know. but if this was so, i'd say its about that persons family... like i said, shot in the freaking dark...
this is pretty dark, but to me this song is all about suicide. it seems like he has lost someone, to an "aeroplane over the ocean" or some unforeseen circumstance. But theres nothing he can do about it to try and save her although hes trying to figure out how to perform her rescue. "Turn down the lights, dont wait for me, im pretty sure i wont be coming home tonight" is completely suicidal. the "pretty sure" part references his doubt to if he can actually take his own life. he wants to kill himself, but he doesnt want to hurt all those that love and care for him - so hes stuck in between. "this (suicide) could be the HARDEST thing, to LEAVE without a single trace". He just wants to disappear and leave no trace of his existence because he doesnt want to hurt anyone with his actions.
My take is he\'s missing his significant other. To him, she\'s on an airplane to go and see him while he\'s on tour. And he\'s always working and touring and busy and for him saying I\'m pretty sure I won\'t be coming home, meaning he\'ll probably be made to do something else, work/band related that they\'re FORCED to do, and it\'s become routine when they try to make plans for him to finally come back home and because he\'s on a label now and staying busy, those plans for him to come home are usually always cancelled. \n\nAnd the chorus... Him saying "could I be anymore this way? Done starting over. The silence and you and this could be... This could be the hardest thing to leave without a single trace. Here without you, here without you I fall apart... I fall apart"... The couple are arguing about he always being gone while she visits him on tour. It\'s her time to go back home and he finds out MORE work is coming. He tells her, and she just stares at him silently, disappointed. And having to say goodbye again is gonna be so hard on him like it always is and when he\'s without her, he falls apart.
