Travel Is Dangerous Lyrics

Who might know of this
The notes we left
Our final thoughts
And we knew they'd get ours out

Sink
Sink

Drowned by our country
Old machine, is cursed
And forgotten
Never surface again

The air runs out
The captain is first
So we take to memories
And layers of clothes
Up there the family waits
And outside we heard hammers
Noises sound like the end
And we will never see them

Sink
Sink

Drowned by her country
Failed machine is cursed
Old and rotten
Never surface again

I am pretty sure this is what all the lyrics mean let me know if im wrong,

Firstly its about a boat sinking im not 100% sure if its about a certain boat or anything..

Who might know of this = Who knows that our boat is sinking.

The notes we left = The notes (letters) we left were going to be sent to our families & (friends),they may never know.

Our final thoughts = Having some last thoughts before death

And we knew they'd get us out = They will come nothing to worry about is basically what there saying.

Sink,Sink = Obvious, the boats sinking.

Drowned By Her Country = Referring to the boat as her, she was drowned in the sea in the country it was built in.

She is old and she is cursed = Old, bad luck.

And forgotten, never surface again = People on boat forgotten the boat nor people will ever surface again.

The air runs out = Boat Air runs out.

The captains first = First to die.

So we take to memories and layers of clothes = to comfort themselves with good memories before they die.

Up there the family waits = waits for a safe return from the sailors.

And outside we here hammers noises sound like the end= Banging from outside boat were going to die.

And we will never see them = Never see there families again.

The rest is simple now.

Anyone noticed the best songs on mr. Beast (i.e. Travel is Dangerous, Acid Food n I chose horses) are all with clearly spoken voices...Mogwai-revolution i tell ya

@Hammlet The revolution wasn't televised as it turns out, but I agree with you. Those are the 3 best songs on that album, followed by emergency trap and glasgow mega snake. I'd be very curious to hear them do an album where they flip their usual ratio of instrumental tracks and tracks with vocal arrangements. Ive always thought they write really cool lyrics and record vocals really well too.

maybe instead of "sing, sing" in the chorus it's "sink, sink" to go with the kursk theme. it would definitely make sense in context.

i think the lyrics for this song are about a disaster at sea, possibly the kursk or something similar.

it's a brilliant tune and one of mogwai's best

Yeah I've always thought it was "sink, sink" until I read "sing, sing" on here.

I don't know, Hammlet. I thought that Folk Death 95 and We're No Here were pretty damn good.

I think the lines "old and she is cursed" and "graved and she is cursed" should be "old machine is cursed" and "great machine is cursed". If this is actually about a submarine, it makes a bit more sense that way, and this is how I've always heard it anyway.
