I Could Be There for You Lyrics
[Why do we
have to come through here tonight?
She says "I'm in the dark
and nobody's coming for me."
Oh, I could be anyone you want
I could be anyone you need
I could be there for you]
She's made of sulfur in the night
All her friends say
Ring ring ring ring where are you hiding?
Ring ring ring ring where are you hiding?
Could you open your door?
Oh could you open your door?
I could be there for you
Oh I could be there for you
I could be there for you
I will be there for you oh
[Love is a false dart driven into your heart]
You're part mystery, partly drawn
Drawn to all things breathing
Ring ring ring ring keep on breathing
Ring ring ring ring keep on believing
If you open your door
Could you open your door?
And I could be there for you
I could be there for you
I could be there for you
I will be there for you oh
Would someone please walk through with me?
I've got nothing to hide, nowhere to be
Why do we have to come through here
'Cause nothing leads me to you
'Cause you are nothing what you seem
You're always looking out for me
'Cause you are nothing what you seem
You're always looking out for me
You'll never contemplate that I am near
And help goes unseen
You're a cave, admitting who you choose
And I could be there for you
I could be there for you
Oh I could be there for you
I could be there for you
I will be there for you oh
have to come through here tonight?
She says "I'm in the dark

This is actually the album version:
She's made of sulfur in the night All her friends say Ring ring ring ring, where are you hiding? Ring ring ring ring, where are you hiding? Would you open your door? Oh, would you open your door?
I could be there for you Oh, I could be there for you I could be there for you I could be there for you, oh
You're part mystery And partly drawn, drawn to all things breathing So ring ring ring ring, keep on breathing Ring ring ring ring, keep on believing If you open your door, oh Would you open your door?
I could be there for you Oh, I could be there for you I could be there for you I could be there for you, oh
Could someone please walk through with me? I've got nothing to hide, nowhere to be Why do we have to come through here 'Cause nothing leads me to you
'Cause you are nothing what you seem You're always looking out for me You are nothing what you seem You're always looking out for me
You'll never contemplate that I am near And help goes unseen You're the cave admitting who you choose And I could be there for you
I could be there for you I could be there for you, oh I could be there for you I will be there for you, oh
Thank you! the lyrics up there are wrong and missing a verse!

I didn't really like this song at first, but it grew on me.
To me, it's about a girl who seems to have fallen into depression and is becoming extremely introverted. Our speaker only wants to help, but it seems as if the girl isn't wanting to let anyone help her. [Perhaps she's scared?]
The first line kind of confused me, so I actually nerd'd myself up and read up on sulfur. The only thing I processed from my reading is that it's flammable, and I don't think that helps us at all.
Wow, no comments. I've never been the first to comment before!
The first time I heard this song was when I saw them live. It's a great song.
beautiful song but this is missing some lyrics and should be fixed.
Can't wait until the 14th!!! :) Eisley is amazingly beautiful.
chauntelle's solo is amaaaaaazing. so glad she got to sing.
i really like how it starts out softly and then gets louder and louder. it's so lovely.
Cause you are nothing what you seem You're always looking out for me
reminds me of pride and prejudice
I agree with the Pride and Prejudice feel this song has.
I think it is about careing and looking out for someone who is afraid to acknowledge your feelings . That's why he/she is "hiding" and needs to open their door to the care, or help that you are offering. And even though they seem indifferent to how deeply you care, they may just be afraid to let people into their heart. A cave is a dark, mysterious place where it is easy to hide one's true self, and only share with those he/she is willing to admit.
Does anyone understand what the first line means?
I think it just means she's in pain.
[ the first line ]
I think she's talking about sulfur simply as a gas, which it is under normal temperatures and pressure conditions.
A gas, by nature, is not confined to a certain state or place. It expands forever unless contained.
And it makes sense that she would follow it with "in the night".
In summation,
I read it as...
I'm solid during the day, but when my friends call at night, I disappear.
I'm terrible with lyric analysis and I'm trying to get better, so come on and correct me.
Well sulfur glows. But it smells. So, I read that as a girl who is pushing herself further into introversion, loneliness, and depression, while still drawing attention to herself, as if she is asking for help without actually verbalizing it. Eisley is one of those bands who keeps their lyrics open, though. All interpretations are welcome, seeing as their lyrics are personable. Just a thought.
