Carpet Lyrics

You can burn your paper fingers in the ashtray
Drown your swollen lips in my ruby wine
You can shave your heavy head in my carpeted hallway
Lie on the floor like so many before being sure for the first time
You chose the right clothes to wear

You can burn your paper fingers in the ashtray
Drown your swollen lips in my ruby wine
You can shave your heavy head in my carpeted hallway
As you laugh to erase all the dirt in this place
Making sure for the last time together is nowhere

this sounds so different from too little too late, and its weird since the lyrics are so similar. it's pretty cool though, that she took the lyrics from this song and used them for another song.

I think that it's based on a relationship that is going no where. They had been feeling this way many times and have tried to stop the relationship, but someone kept coming back or they kept getting together... or one person of the relationship believed that the relationship could still last... but now "Making sure for the last time together is nowhere" :P So they have decided that they should just move on in separate paths.

i don't think it's a relationship at all.

rather, a quaint stand with a stranger in her dirty place.

just another repeat of the same thing with a different man.

dirty. fucking. sex.

and both TRYING to ignore it.

he, ignoring the countless other men she's fucked here.

and she, ignoring the fact that it's happened so many times before.

but then again, it doesnt matter how "dirty" she or her home is, because it's just a gutter fuck.

and they'll never be "together".

Wow, so blunt and stark, and to the point. Sure fits with most of the lyrics. I confess to not be connected to that 'other world' out there with gutter f**** as you put it. Wow, so sordid and hopeless. Really blends with Poster of a Girl, too. Ugghh. I guess that's 'reality' in lostness... so sad :(
