Chevy Van Lyrics

I gave a girl a ride in my wagon
She rolled in and took control
She was tired and her mind was a-draggin'
I said get some sleep and dream of rock and roll

[Chorus]
'Cause like a picture she was layin' there
Moonlight dancin' off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
She's gonna love me in my Chevy van
And that's all right with me

Her young face was like that of an angel
Her long legs were tanned and brown
Better keep your eyes on the road, son
Better slow this vehicle down

[Chorus]

I put her out in a town that was so small
You could throw a rock from end to end
A dirt road Main Street, she walked off in bare feet
It's a shame I won't be passin' through again

'Cause like a picture she was layin' there
Moonlight dancin' off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
We made love in my Chevy van
And that's all right with me

And then at the end, he gives her the boot and takes off, never to return ...

This song is just old school fun, cheesy, sexy nostalgia. They don't write songs like this anymore. They try, but songs about skeeting on hoes in Escalades just don't have the same innocent charm.

@cgodfrey There actually was a porno flick based on this song. It cam out abouyt two years later. Don't ask me how I know this.

Songs like this went over my head as a kid. "We made love in my chevy van"...I just thought it meant they were kissing. My dad had a Chevy Van, but it was strictly for family outings, not starting new families!

The lyrics seem to be off just a bit. Here is what I think they are:

I gave a girl a ride in my wagon She crawled in and took control She was tired 'cause her mind was a-draggin' I said, get some sleep and dream of rock and roll

'Cause like a princess she was layin' there Moonlight dancin' off her hair She woke up and took me by the hand She's gonna love me in my Chevy van And that's all right with me

Her young face was like that of an angel Her long legs were tanned and brown Better keep your eyes on the road, son Better slow this vehicle down

'Cause like a princess she was layin' there Moonlight dancin' off her hair She woke up and took me by the hand We made love in my Chevy van And that's all right with me

I put her out in a town that was so small You could throw a rock from end to end A dirt-road main street, she walked off in bare feet It's a shame I won't be passin' through again

'Cause like a princess she was layin' there Moonlight dancin' off her hair She woke up and took me by the hand We made love in my Chevy van And that's all right with me

'Cause like a princess she was layin' there Moonlight dancin' off her hair She woke up and took me by the hand We made love in my Chevy van And that's all right with me

I submitted similar lyrics. I agree with your rendition except for "princess". It is "picture". He is reminiscing and remembering how she looked, like a picture.

I think this song simply represents most red-blooded American Guy\'s fantasy of a chance encounter with a girl in need of a ride to any destination, which he gladly offers be it for innocent or nefarious reasons and she in return offers an opportunity to fulfill that fantasy in a most memorable way. Two consenting adults with the added "strangers" ingredient leaving both happy and satisfied with a warm nostalgic "once in a lifetime" to dreamily look back on for the rest of their lives and wonder "where is she (he) now?"

My Interpretation

Last Sunday I was taking a walk along the lakefront in New Orleans, where guys display their classic cars, and there was a powder blue Chevy Van. "Chevy Van" right on the side! I haven't seen one of these in a long time, and this song instantly came to my mind. The guy who owned it looked to be in his 20s but when I sang the last lines of the chorus, he said he knew the song. It brought back those sweet days when a guy could sing a song like this and it put you in the mood to climb in back, everybody on board, guys and gals. Made me wish I was 40 years younger! I've had this sweet song in my head for days now....

I think it's a girl he loved but she left him because he didn't realise for a while. "my Chevy van" -- I think is saying she didn't care about his money, loved him for him ?
