I think the person in the song did something "regretful", and he thinks that god will perhaps not forgive him, and what he has done is done. Not quite sure on that though..

This song is about a person who dies. An accident took the beating from his heart and his lease on his body is over. No ambulance came to rescue him and he's going to heaven (he assumes). I think when he says "god is gonna get sick of me" he just means that in the eternity he spends in the afterlife god's gonna get bored with him.

I think this song is political in some sense. It is about the establishment having control over our lives and making us feel dependent on them. It's about allowing them to own us and take away our freedoms. The "lease is up" is them taking away your right to live whenever they see fit. The real cause of death is society and the government, but people are too blinded to see that and will think it is their fault.

Could possibly be a reference to staged terror attacks and 9/11 being an inside job, but that may be taking it too far. I'll try to explain certain lines below:

They harm us with terrorist attacks to show that we need them to protect us.

Bush claiming to be a Christian decides when people get to die in his insane causes. A true hypocrite.

The people at the top saying they can protect us and don't worry about what they're actually doing to keep us safe, just go on with your lives.

Not quite sure on this one, could be somewhat sarcastic. Whatever took his life will seem like it was his fault for not allowing the government to take care of him.

Everyone is afraid of terrorism and gives their support to the government to "set it right".

Everyone thinks that nothing can be taken from them in this country and that we are free. In reality they can take everything from you, including your life.

I don't know, i could be way off, but it seems like there is more to it than just a guy dieing and going to heaven, there is a lot of anger in it.

All I know about this song is that I love it. Saying that though, I find petecb's interpretation to be very intriguing.

petecb, Yes - I feel the anger in this song. Something the old folks used to say is that when God gets sick of a body he kills em off. Sort of like that old Latin saw; "Whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad" I think that "nothing can be taken" from the dead. And you stop "waiting for the ambulance" after it's too late for them to be of any use to you - when you're dead. And the song actually seems to be about a careless (carefree?) person who doesn't appreciate his life until those final moments. On a lighter note: does this song flash anybody forward to that family planning doctor murder in the church? or of the reverend?

wtf?? is quite simple look! the way i get it (and some other of my friends) is that the religious people blame themselves when they commit mistakes and hope that god fix their problems by praying if things go right or good things happen is because of god the human being its not capable of fix their mistakes at the eyes of religion but people like me that dont believe in god deep inside believes that god will kill us because god is going to get sick of us my english is bad sorry im mexican

I think Petecb may have in point in regards to the...format of the song. The singer speaks mostly in the 3rd person; as an observer of other peoples behavior towards a certain scenario. Or the whole point of the song could be as abstract and satircal as the title line of the chorus. I do like Dispraiser's take on it though- God's gotta call it quits sometime. This is the first song I've heard by them. Hope they can up the ante.
