Well the connotation I get is that this is about the porno industry ("You can't ask me to pose like that", "What sells sells and we can never change that", etc) and how degrading and selfish of an industry it is ("Noone here cares if you lose anything, nevermind-your clothes in those photographs", "Don't you think it's sick it's pretty scary/When they ask her to pose like that"). The writer is obviously disgusted by the way they treat women, and who wouldnt be? Many of the girls who go into the industry are just young, naive, and sad. Just looking for acceptance. It's an industry for some, but not many.
Hmm I always made the connection that they were drawing a parallel between the sex industry and the music industry. The big record corporations find small acts, take them in, dress them up and market them, not unlike some sort of sex objects. Brings to mind media pop stars and the old addage "Sex sells".
Maybe I just made this connection because The Futureheads are an Indie Rock band and it seems logical for them to criticize the mainstream recording industry.
