its about being lost in a relationship in which you let you trust your partner to guide you through life and you realise at the end that you had lost your say in it, kind of similar to whats being prophesised in Steady as she goes
i think this song is about taking drugs
i think its about breaking up - "call it a day" "Can we just go our own separate ways?" "goodbye" etc etc
i don't see a way this song could possibly be interpreted as referring to drugs. save alcohol and cigarettes, jack white is notoriously sober.
the character in the song is facing a difficult break-up (or seperation) from either a very good friend or romantic interest. "call(ing) it a day" is his way of throwing in the towel, so to speak. he's tired of bickering and doesn't feel that the relationship is going anywhere ("enough has been said / i break down and cry").
could this be a veiled reference to the (possible) end of meg and jack white's career together?
hey joe, I don't think this song could ever be about drugs - but, in my opinion, is about religion, belief etc. Jack is saying that he wants to believe in God and is trying to follow but is being swayed by temptation and can't figure his way out of it. He's saying it's too hard to be follow all the time...

Seriously, how come people seem to think everythign can be tied back to drugs? Jack is definitely not a drug abuser. Im thinking its the relationship ones who've got it down.
Jack doesn't sing this song. It's brendan singing, which most likely means that he wrote it, which means that it couldn't be about jack n meg.

This song is about a guy who's tired of dealing with all the stress & mind games that his wife or girlfriend is putting him through. He keeps saying, "You've constructed this maze. It's your design". So maybe he thinks that his girl ENJOYS tormenting him & now he's ready to walk away from it all.
