Wings Lyrics

Weighin' on your mind, like a ball and chain
Like a destiny to run from
Division in your soul (in your soul), keepin' you from whole
I can bare to see you crying

The weight that lays on your shoulders
Could be the wings that carry you home

Sometimes you've got to die to be born again
Sometimes you've got to fight
Sometimes you've got to learn
Sometimes you've got to burn
The old brush out so the new can grow

The weight that lays on your shoulders
Could be the wings that carry you home
Yeah, come on

Could be the wings
Could be the wings (carry you home)
Could be the wings (oh)
Could be the wings (carry you home)

Like two long lost friends

The weight that lays on your shoulders
Could be the wings that carry you home
(Carry you home)
Come on, come on

Could be the wings
Could be the wings (lord above)
Could be the wings (oh yeah)
Could be the wings (carry you home)
Could be the wings
Could be the wings (carry you home)
Could be the wings
Could be the wings (carry you home)

I actually think the lyrics are "The WEIGHT that lays on your shoulders, but could it be the wings that, carry you home." Ed is such a beatiful inspiring person. I had the chance to meet him and was absolutely taken by him. In this song, I feel Ed is consoling someone who is troubled...he tells them, "yes there is weight on your back, but its your wings" and they will carry you home, to where you will have peace once again. Hes Brilliant! :)

Beautiful song. Without even trying, it sums up the life of a person of faith (especially a Christian). Your faith is a burden, and so is everything in this world that beats you down. But it's that burden that you embrace that will ultimately be the wings that carry you home. You just have to open your eyes and your heart to be able to take the long view and see it that way.

I always see this song from the Christian viewpoint, which sees this song as a one about Redemptive Suffering. Especially being Catholic, I know this is taught that suffering through pain or even self denial and sacrifice can lead to greater insights into Love and God. So in short, the weight that lays on our shoulders can bring us closer to God if we let it, it can be a vehicle to redeem us. If we let it.
