Giddy Stratospheres Lyrics

You're pretty, oh so pretty
Why waste your time just sitting
Here a-listening to that dullard bitch?
Do nothing, eat your chocolate,
Drink your wine, she won't let you
Make your way across her empire line

What's eating you is a mystery
But go home with her one more time
And you know you'll be history

Watch movies with the lights on
Sit still, keep her tights on
Didn’t you see this one sometime last week?
Go on say something clever
Just accept she will never
Take you higher than her attic room

What's eating you is a mystery
But go home with her one more time
And you know you'll be history

She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears
She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears

Is she a femme fatale?
That's what she wants you to think
She'll never lead him astray
But it's the best she can do
But is she going away?
No she'll always be here,
Waiting for you
Back here on earth

Your mother, call your mother
Even she's surprised that this is
How you want to spend your nights indoors
You never call too often
What's up, have you forgotten
What it's like to have her on all fours?

What's eating you is a mystery
But go home with her one more time
And you know you'll be history

She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears
She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears

Is she a femme fatale?
That's what she wants you to think
She'll never lead him astray
But it's the best she can do
But is she going away?
No she'll always be here,
Waiting for you
Back here on earth
There's a train at
The station
It's leaving
This morning
It'll take you
Away from
This girl that's
So boring

Don't turn around just walk away
Don't turn around just walk away
Don't turn around just walk away

She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears
She'll never take you to giddy stratospheres
I’ll confirm your fears

Is she a femme fatale?
That's what she wants you to think
She'll never lead him astray
But it's the best she can do
But is she going away?
No she'll always be here,
Waiting for you
Back here on earth

A female friend is telling her male friend that he should leave his girlfriend, because she is boring and a bit stuck-up. Se is kind of excusing him for dumping her because even his mother is 'surprised that this is how you want to spend your nights indoors'. And she is telling him that it's ok to have sexual urges 'have you forgotten, what its like to have her on all fours'. It's a really honest song, when people arent saying 'love her for who she is, forget the sex', she is instead saying 'sex is a huge part of any relationship, and you are entitled to it'. Awesome band

Just as a note, the guitarist writes the lyrics. He's male. I think that's ace that he can write from a female perspective.

This song is referencing Hitchcock films which the band are heavily influenced by. Lines such as "here a listening to this dead eye bitch," "She will never take you higher than her attic room," "Your mother call your mother," are all referencing Hitchcock films including Psycho, The Birds and North by Northwest. The use of words such as attic, mother, femme fatale and train are all alluding to key themes in Hitchcock films. The song is targeting voyerism and the male obsession of a marketed female image - the male gaze. The band are using these ideas in a satirical way to break open male stereotypes of women.

Btw Kate and Dorian both write the lyrics to the songs.

Arrrgh. I wonder if some people have even listened to a song more than once when they post the 'lyrics' on here. I came to check the second line of the main chorus (thanks Prisoner - it is 'confirm'), and the other, obvious, errors annoyed me so much I ended up registering.

I mean, what on earth is a 'dead-eye bitch?' Some psycho girl who's adept with a sniper rifle? How would that fit into the song? The word you were looking for is 'dullard'. Also, 'once and timeless week' may sound like a way of saying this week is just like all your other weeks, but it would be terribly inelegant - and more to the point, it's hard to understand how you got those words when 'didn't you see this one some time last week?' clearly fits into the verse so much better.

Some words in songs may at first be unclear, but when trying to determine what those words are the listener has a lot of contextual information to help, in the form of the other lyrics. It really isn't too much to ask that people use that information, especially on a song like this where most lyrics and their meanings are clear. This isn't Thom Yorke mumbling tangled metaphors a foot away from the microphone, afterall.

Oh, and I agree with everyone who's said the song isn't purely about sex (though it is of course the most important part) - this girl is 100% boring.

The correct lyrics are:

You're pretty, oh so pretty Why waste your time just sitting Here a-listening to that dullard bitch? Do nothing, eat your chocolate, Drink your wine, she won't let you Make your way across her empire line

I believe it is "dead eyed bitch" Even though when you listen it sounds a little like dullard.

Anyway I did some research and HOW it fits in the song is.. The Long Blondes decided to preview the new album under the name The Dead Eyed Bitches. The name of the "band" is part of a lyric from "Giddy Stratospheres".

So that's how baffled king.

It's quite ironic you bitched about the lyric poster when you had your facts wrong yourself :O!

On the newer version of this song it goes: Watch movies with the lights on, sit still, keep her tights on. Didn't you see this one some time last week?

Fab song. Love love love this band.

I think where you've got "just act(s) it" it might be just accept it, but I could be wrong.

I love this band's lyrics!

Great song, but there are a few small errors to this song.

"to this dead-eye bitch?" - "to the dead-eyed bitch?"

"do you see this once and timeless week?" - "didn't you see this one some time last week?"

"that come from your fears!" - "I'll confirm your fears!"

this song is basically just a girl persuading her male friend to leave his girlfriend because she won't put out.
