These days science had overpowered our society. "Theories sever what is beautiful." Everything is being so thoroughly disected that religion and the wondrous marvel of life are condensed to a mere calculation.
Although that is the general idea of it, I think it's even more specifically targeting the advancements of cloning, as it talks about "purposeful design." The "complicated formula of flesh" is the science that creates synthetic beings
Right on, to the two comments above me, but I'll one setep further on Seizure's view; issues dealing with manipulation of the body, "flesh", i.e. plastic surgery. But it's all very much science versus natural, in general.
