The Neutral Lyrics

[Kim]

There's not a dreamer or a schemer
running away from me
There's not a singer, an entertainer
with no follow-through
There's not a poet or a mystic
with a cigarette unglued
He's just neutral, yeah, he's weary
Not even brand new

It's a perfect sin
Close your eyes and lose the rest
It's a perfect sin
Close your mind and feel the best

Everyone has a headache,
imprecise, hard to cure
Gotta shake it, what ails you
The lines are blurred
Is it a pain in your heart?
Dark and grey from the start
You won't seduce me or attract me,
just 'cause you're strained

It's a perfect sin
Close your eyes and lose the rest
It's a perfect sin
Close your mind and feel the best

Why would you tell me what's inside your head?
Why would you show me your sacred bed
Secret head

There's not a dreamer or a schemer
running away from you
There's not a singer, an entertainer
with no follow-through
There's not a poet or a mystic
with a cigarette unglued
There's not a cowboy or a loner
with nothing to do
He's neutral, yeah, he's weary,
not even brand new
He's neutral, yeah, he's weary,
and he's so in love with you

This song always reminds me of the last season...really the last 3 episodes of the show Six Feet Under. (Don't read anymore if you don't want anything spoiled) One of the main characters, an artists named Claire, falls in love with this really average mundane guy, Ted (or maybe it was Tom). She's used to dating artists and hipsters and fuck ups, where as Ted/Tom is a republican, a college graduate, and a lawyer. Claire being able to love some one so square showed how much she matured.

I like your interpretation Debased. the relation between maturing and seeing the positive or redeeming qualities in a neutral or normal relationship definitely seems to be in this song.

also- the lines "why would you tell me what's inside your head? why would you show me your sacred bed? secret head?" are the most powerful in this song. And I think she's saying that she may have never noticed him or given him a chance if it weren't for his mind (what is in his head that is really special but secret because he doesn't let it be obvious to everyone), and that their intellectual relationship makes him sexy to her, even though he seems like an average, neutral kind of guy at first glance.
