Journey Through the Past Lyrics
When the winter rains come pourin' down
On that new home of mine
Will you think of me and wonder if I'm fine?
Will your restless heart come back to mine
On a journey through the past?
Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
Now I'm goin' back to Canada
On a journey through the past
And I won't be back 'til February comes
"I will stay with you if you'll stay with me,"
Said the fiddler to the drunk
And we'll keep the tab on a journey through the past
When the winter rains come pourin' down
On that new home of mine
Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
On that new home of mine
Will you think of me and wonder if I'm fine?
On a journey through the past?
Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?
On a journey through the past
And I won't be back 'til February comes
Said the fiddler to the drunk
And we'll keep the tab on a journey through the past
On that new home of mine
Will I still be in your eyes and on your mind?

This song has always been a favorite of mine. For me it represents moving away from old friends in a time when there was no electronic way to keep in touch, and long distance phone calls were very expensive. “ Am I still important to you?” The song seems to ask. Always makes me sad when I hear it but in a good way. Sometimes songs just say what is in your heart.
Well, no NY original, and Rita Coolidge recorded it on her second album, which was released in November 1971, before Neil's soundtrack album named after it in 1973... -- Dave
It may be a rehash of After the Gold Rush, but it sure is nice.
That's what I thought too - sounds very much like "After the Goldrush".
hmmm, interesting. He was doing new songs and old songs so this was kind of both lol. Liking the mention of canada!
I think he says "I will stay with you if you stay with me said the fiddler to the drum, and we'll keep good time on a journey through the past".
@SensoryParting I always thought he said drum as well.
