Your Bright Baby Blues Lyrics
I'm sitting down by the highway
Down by that highway side
Everybody's going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess they've got a lot to do
Before they can rest assured
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me baby
He can let me slide
'Cause I've been up and down this highway
Far as my eyes can see
No matter how fast I run
I can never seem to get away from me
No matter where I am
I can't help feeling I'm just a day away
From where I want to be
Now I'm running home baby
Like a river to the sea
Baby if you can see me
Out across this wilderness
There's just one thing
I was hoping you might guess
Baby you can free me
All in the power of your sweet tenderness
I can see it in your eyes
You've got those bright baby blues
You don't see what you've got to gain
But you don't like to lose
You watch yourself from the sidelines
Like your life is a game you don't mind playing
To keep yourself amused
I don't mean to be cruel baby
But you're looking confused
Baby if you can hear me
Turn down your radio
There's just one thing
I want you to know
When you've been near me
I've felt the love stirring in my soul
It's so hard to come by
That feeling of peace
This friend of mine said
"Close your eyes, and try a few of these"
I thought I flying like a bird
So far above my sorrow
But when I looked down
I was standing on my knees
Now I need someone to help me
Someone to help me please
Baby if you need me
Like I know I need you
There's just one thing
I'll ask you to do
Take my hand and lead me
To the hole in your garden wall
And pull me through
Down by that highway side
Everybody's going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess they've got a lot to do
Before they can rest assured
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me baby
He can let me slide

this is one of the most beautiful songs ever "when you've been near me, I've felt the love stirring in my soul"
Jackson Browne is so underrated
@woodenships I once heard Jackson Browne choosing favourite songs from his early years and one was the Beatles 'I Want To Hold Your Hand'. JB said that hearing the title he thought 'that's not what I want to do!', but then hearing the line 'when I touch you I feel happy' he really got it.

@woodenships “underrated” by whom, exactly? He’s recognized as a master songwriter by Halls Of Fame, critics, he has the respect of his peers (not least of whom, Bruce Springsteen, has mentioned how great he has always known JB was and remains.

If what your saying is that he is not as universally recognized as he should be, I’d agree with that - he’s not alone there, either. The sheer number of people who cannot recognize or acknowledge the greatness of Dylan never ceases to amaze me.

Great description of drug addiction!!!
I don't know about that being a description of addiction, but it definitely speaks to how easy it is to get started.

And I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the brilliant slide guitar solo by the late, great Lowell George. (everyone say it with me, "Little Feat hasn't existed since Lowell George died")

This song is incredible. I heard it a lot when I was younger and my parents listened to it. One day recently it just came into my head, even though I hadn't heard it in years. The bit I remembered was the "there's just one thing" motif. A quick google search brought me to the song, and it really is incredible
i agree. i love jackson browne. i cant remember ever not listening to him.
yes. Definitely one of the best songs ever.
Right along the time my parents were dating, they went to see Jackson Browne. He played this song, and my dad turned to my mom, having blue eyes, and started crying and told her how much he loved her. She had blue eyes, just like Jackson was singing about. I definitely didn't know who I was until I started listening to Jackson Browne. He is such a beautiful person and his music is life changing, especially this song. His stuff is too deep sometimes, it hurts. Especially if you can relate it to yourself. This song is nothing short of incredible.
I have heard for years, though, that he is a wife-beater....I hate to even thank such a thing
