Redneck Friend Lyrics
Y'all aren't thinking right. It's a very transparent song. His redneck friend is his penis. He wants to introduce the "pretty little one" to his penis. Get it? It's his poetic way of saying he wants to fuck her, not so much make love to her, but fuck her... well.
And daddy's not doing heroin for crap's sake! Daddy is distracted in that moment watching tv so Jacks sees an opportunity to move in for the kill.
It's really not that serious of a song but it is slightly more complex than a jerk off song. It's fun, one of very few light songs from him in that era. And Lesyeuxdeserpent, 100%, ALL of the other lyrics support that theory.
@AstoriaQueen Yes, FACT, it’s about his dick. Next question please. This one’s been settled.

This song is about his dick.
Yep, definitely about his penis.
Uh..Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh...yeah...and his hand...Heh Heh Heh Heh...heh heh.
If you all stop looking for sexual connotation, you realize right away that the song is about his son who traveled with him when on tour. The lad was barely 2 years old but already on the run even though they were just teaching him how to walk.
Toddlers like to 'shake, rattle & roll' - the 'red-neck friend' was probably David Lindley.
@Rvon No, the words in this song definitely suggest the narrator is talking to a girl and wanting to take her for a "ride." You're reaching. It's nice thinking, using the context of artist's situation, but the lyrics really don't support your analysis.

His red neck friend is his penis. Get it? Now the lyrics make sense.
My understanding is that the title was originally red-Headed friend, which was a bit too transparent for FM radio play back in the day, so he had to change it to 'neck.' Cadence on headed works better, too.
Lindley wasn't much of a red head, or neck as I understand it.
His redneck friend is Gregg Allman. He was a big fan of the ABB
@BossGlebe Did the two of them ever hang out, tho? lol In other news, Jackson had another song "Rosie", with more veiled sexual meaning.

...come on....you guys ruined this song for me...and you are likely correct. i thought it was an LA liberal song about his redneck friend...nevermind....
This song is clearly about showing her the sexual ropes.
