Raise the Roof Lyrics

Raise the roof, that I might see the stars
To gain wisdom, to see things for what they are
Please, I need proof

Dance till you fall
Love till you die
Shut your mouth
Raise the roof

Trapped in this snare with too much dreaming to bear
Fearful and frantic, hopless and a romantic
Inspired but tied, I run this wide-open course
like the sagging spirit of an older horse

Dance till you fall
Love till you die
Shut your mouth
Raise the roof
Peel back this backdrop, like the lids from my eyes
Put you in plain view, let me visualize
Touch me again in my dreams till I feel
Touch me again till I wake and it's real

Dance till you fall
Love till you die
Shut your mouth
Raise the roof

The wisest advice to me that I didn't teach
Was to lock up the heart, but keep the key within reach
Touch me again in my dreams till I feel
Touch me again till I wake and it's real

Dance till you fall
Love till you die
Shut your mouth
Raise the roof

I had never heard this song before I heard them live last night. This song is so pretty, I love it. It must be really personal - during the instrumental part the singer went off to the back and looked kind of sad.

This is my take on the song. This is a song about what's important. Take away the things that are making me see the world the way I see it, and let me see what there really is to see. "Dance till you fall. Love till you die. Shut your mouth." The things that are important are dancing and loving. The silliness of babbling and running your mouth is not important and it's just talking and saying things that are from your cluttered point of view, not even seeing what's REALLY there. Let...

oops about where that landed, it wasn't supposed to be a "reply", it was to have been a comment. Either way, it's here now.

I believe the "dance till you fall, love till you die" are examples of just doing it and the "shut your mouth, raise the roof" lyrics are getting a kiss from a girl. Raise the roof because the kiss will make you high. The guy's been through multiple relationships, he's getting older, and his spirit is sagging. He's singing about the time when he can unlock his heart again. That's my take.
