The Arctic Circle Lyrics

She drives a little white car to the seminar on Modern Romance
Possible possible ideas for a date include... a shooting range
And her chest is full to bursting with thoughts of an evening
Nobody nobody nobody will ever know her longing
She's got a heart that will never melt
She's got a heart that will never never melt

Shields up! Shields up! Bar the door, and keep your dukes up!
Tell lies, tell dirty lies, tell diggory lies, until you're lying in his bed

He has a tendency, a tendency to fall for shining eyes and baby fat
But the quarry don't share his taste for Anne McCaffrey
And he dresses alright but the conversation is wrong, all wrong
Nobody nobody nobody will ever know his longing
He's got a heart that will never melt
He's got a heart that will never never melt

Shields up! Shields up! Bar the door, and keep your dukes up!
Tell lies, tell diggory lies, tell chiggery lies, until you're lying in his bed

Now you can endure the fear now you can endure the hell
Now you can endure the lies now you can endure the fear

huh. I never looked at the lyrics before. I guess this is about the things people hide about themselves in order to get into a relationship, and the dreams they put aside because they don't think the other person will share or understand them.

what're diggory lies? anyone?

Diggory, in French, can be translated to astray, which means to lead away from the right path or direction. So he could mean tell lies that lead you away from the truth. At least that's what I get from it :)

I think this one must be inspired by the Abjuration School of Magic from D&D. Its all about protecting yourself and the downside of what happens when you protect yourself too much from others.

Abjuration sounds right to me. The title "Arctic Circle" refers to Magic Circle Against Evil, "a heart that will never melt" to Endure Elements, Protection from Energy and/or Resist Energy, "shields up!" to Shield, and "now you can endure the fear" to Remove Fear, all abjuration spells in 3.5 Edition (the latest at the time the album was released).

"Now you can endure the lies" doesn't quite fit though. The only D&D 3.5e spells that defend against lies are Discern Lies, which is divination, and Zone of Truth, which is enchantment....

He said in an interview that this song, in one sentence, meant that nerds have to hide their video games for the first two months of dating. The girls or boys who these gamers are attracted to don't necessarily like Anne McCaffrey, who writes a lot of stories about dragon riders and fantasy.

Can we talk about how catchy this song is? It's invaded my head for days: "She's got a heart that will never melt, she's got a heart that will never never melt!"
