Its been a long dark road but i remember when it meant the world ot me,

Here he remembers when living meant the world to him and everyday was a good day.

Its been a long dark day and a cold black night and it still gets hard to see,

Here he talks about how he finds it hard to see whats left to live for in life. He can't see the good things anymore.

Cause they dont know me and they never will,

The people in his life don't see how he really feels. And he's not about to tell them.

Here I THINK he's remembering what changed in his life that took away so much of himself. The reasons why he feels the way he does now.

Whatever he's going through in life right now makes it hard to keep going.

Thats how I interpret the lyrics. Basically he's found himself living a life that he just isn't happy in anymore. And he misses the days when living everyday was a new adventure and he was happy to wake up in the morning. Something changed somewhere along the line and slowly things just went downhill..
