I believe this song is about someone clueless about people talking behind their backs, or making up rumors about them. I think they are particularly talking about a band, possibly HA themselves.

i think this song is about people mocking daryls band head automatica, cuz his old band glassjaw is much more hardcore, whie HA is straight pop, and i think people are "laughing" at daryl for his poppy band...glassjaw and head automatica both rock...i ain't laughing at your band

i think he's talking more about other people, especially small touring bands. so many times bands work their hardest and still remain the butt of "elist musician's" jokes. he also refers in the bridge to how so many small bands can get screwed over in the process of their career.

this song makes me chuckle every time i hear it, as daryl wrote this song about fall out boy
