I LOVE this song! with a passion! lol. There are a few special people that I care a lot about that I would say things like that to. I love the chorus. I think that what strikes me about this song is that it's not necessarily begging the person the song is directed at to fall in love with you or anything. It just says that you genuinely care about that person and it would make you so happy knowing they're happy, even if it means you two are apart. It's sort of refreshing like that, if that makes sense :D And yet, it says "I hope you know somebody loves you." Something about that is very comforting to me. I can't explain it. I love this song because the lyrics are different from other songs I listen to :D
my boyfriend suffered from leukemia last year and made a video for me with this song before he died. it means so much to me . . . it's kind of like someone saying they really care about you even if you can't be together forever.
He wants "this person" to live a life full of happiness, but along the way, just know he loves her. It's all he wants, for her to be happy (I interpret it as a girl :3) He wants her to be something someday, and that she gets where she wants to go.

i think all great country songs...or well, all country songs... can be twisted and distorted in meaning to apply to everyone's situation. anyway, this song could be to someone who is getting ready to graduate, or maybe as a gift from someone who just passed away? like i sign or something. but i think its mostly a message to not forget the people who care about you and no matter how hard it gets or how bad you fuck up they will always be there.

i think that this song could be about a child. i dont know if any of the band members have children, but that is what i think of when i hear it. kind of like he is just saying that he wants his child to follow all of their dreams and know that they are supported. it could also be about a friend.
well this song could also be directed to pretty much everyone as a motivation. it seems like one of those "don't give up songs". the lyrics always mention "you"... not exactly a someone... maybe "you" in general (as in the listeners) all in all... its an awesome song and these other comments are really good ideas too :D
