I discovered this song during high school, and I remember it going through my head while I was working up the nerve to ask out this girl I had a crush on. I picked up on the meaning of overcoming internal obstacles, but the song is more ambiguous than just that, isn't it?
Although I haven't listened to the band or the song, I believe the song IS about overcoming internal obstacles and yearning for escape and perhaps craving for intimacy. I believe that those are the threads which tie it all together and the rest is mostly what we project on to it, no?
Put simply, this is the darkest song i've ever heard
